Four young Irish Water Polo players will take on one of Irelandโ€™s most iconic open-water swimming routes when they attempt a 17-kilometre relay swim from Carrybridge to Enniskillen to raise funds for LauraLynn โ€“ Irelandโ€™s Childrenโ€™s Hospice.

The relay team consists of Sophia Mangan and Carla Millar of North Dublin Winter Swimming Club (N.D.W.S.C), Cara Beagon of St. Vincentโ€™s Waterpolo Club, and Robyn Harper Duffy of Half Moon SWPC.

Together, they will complete the former Irish Long Distance Championship course, swimming one-hour relay legs. In an extraordinary display of endurance, teamwork and determination, the girls will take on the entire challenge without wetsuits.

Over the last few weeks, weโ€™ve been out across Dublin City delivering simple but important water safety messages to all people, but especially young ones.

With more time spent near the sea, rivers, and pools, itโ€™s so important that everyone understands the risks and knows how to stay safe. Not just in open water, but also in places like baths and paddling pools, which are often overlooked but are among the most common risks.

We were delighted to team up with RLSS, which delivered sessions in two DEIS schools, while Water Safety Ireland joined us at the Decathlon Play Day, delivering two sessions on drowning prevention and one on CPR, reaching overall 200 children.

All sessions were interactive and engaging, helping people see how quickly things can go wrong and what they can do to protect themselves and others. It really highlights how much of a difference simple water safety knowledge can make.

Thatโ€™s why these conversations matter. The more we talk about water safety, the more aware and confident our communities become. A little knowledge can truly save lives this summer.

The sun doesnโ€™t have to be strong to damage your skin. UV can be high even on cool or cloudy days. Protect your skin every day youโ€™re outdoors: slip on clothing, slop on sunscreen, slap on a hat, seek shade and slide on sunglasses.
