Inishowen Sub Aqua Club was delighted to attend today’s naming ceremony and service of dedication for the new Lough Swilly RNLI Atlantic 85 lifeboat, Davdot, in Buncrana.

Congratulations to the Lough Swilly RNLI team on this special occasion. As a club involved in search and recovery, diving and marine safety, we recognise the importance of the RNLI’s work and the dedication of its volunteer crews in protecting lives at sea.

Wishing the crew safe launches and safe returns, and thanking all the RNLI volunteers for their continued service to our coastal communities.

𝗪𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗻𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗔𝘁𝗹𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝟴𝟱 𝗰𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀 𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲𝗯𝗼𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝘁 𝗮 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗰𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗱𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝘁 𝟮𝗽𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗦𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗱𝗮𝘆, 𝟭𝟬 𝗢𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗯𝗲𝗿.
The Atlantic 85 class lifeboat which arrived and went on service in April, will be named 𝘋𝘢𝘷𝘥𝘰𝘵, having been generously funded by English couple Dorothy and David Robinson.

We dived at Leenan Pier this morning as part of an An Taisce’s Clean Coasts campaign, taking place across the country today.

Due to challenging conditions, divers used a search and recovery swimline technique. We followed the pier wall out, then turned and came back into the slipway along a different pathway.

After the underwater clean-up, we focused on the nearby stony beach. In total, we collected 9 bags of litter weighing at 90kg including bottles, plastic wrapping, food containers, cans, metal, glass, rope and more.

Great to give back a little to our marine environment, and we look forward to getting involved in more clean-ups with Clean Coasts in the future.

We had beautiful conditions this morning at Massmount. Clear skies and a flat-calm sea made for a relaxing 50-minute-plus dive to a maximum depth of 14 metres. Water temperature remains at 16 degrees Celsius, while in-water visibility was around 5m horizontally. Thanks to Rory for leading. ~ Dearn Mcclintock

A great day for instructor development in Athlone!

Last weekend saw the Diving Ireland National Moniteur Juror Course take place, with 15 Moniteur instructors beginning their journey towards becoming Moniteur 2 star examiners.

The Juror Course develops the skills required to assess divers and instructors consistently and fairly across the Diving Ireland system, covering assessment theory, practical and instructional assessment, written work, jury scenarios and the Examiner/Assessor Code of Conduct.

Following the course, our new trainee examiners will build experience across a range of Diving Ireland assessments as they work towards their Moniteur** qualification.

Congratulations to all 15 candidates and a huge thank you to everyone involved in delivering the course and supporting the next generation of Diving Ireland Examiners.
