The Women’s Student Coaching Academy is a collaborative programme between SSI, Sport Ireland, 26 third level institutions and ten national governing bodies of sport (NGBs).

The aim of the academy is to provide female student coaches with the support system that will enable them to develop and reach their coaching potential. Furthermore, the academy aims to increase the number, and visibility, of female coaches in third level institutions and create female role models for other female students to progress into coaching.

Huge congratulations to our Carmel Lynch Award 2026 winner, Rónán Brennan 🎉👏

Named in honour of our former Director of Sport, Carmel Lynch—who dedicated 32 years to developing sport, student life, and the vibrant clubs & societies culture we know today—this prestigious award recognises a student who embodies her spirit of commitment, leadership, and generosity.

This year’s recipient, Science Society President Rónán Brennan, truly exemplifies these values. A final-year Applied Science student, Rónán has shown outstanding leadership, building strong connections across campus and creating meaningful opportunities for student engagement.

From pioneering a multi-society event that brought students together (and ensured international students felt part of festive celebrations), to organising industry guest speakers that support career development—his impact has been felt far and wide.

A dedicated Peer Mentor for the past three years, Rónán has consistently supported fellow students with warmth and enthusiasm, especially during first-year orientation. He’s always ready to help, whether on campus or in the wider community—volunteering at events like the Annual Easter Party for Senior Citizens and teaching Irish dancing locally.

Rónán was also awarded a Gold SETU President’s Volunteer Award in 2025 and continues to give back through initiatives like his charity quiz night supporting the Irish Kidney Association 💙

We are incredibly proud to recognise Rónán Brennan as the Carmel Lynch Award recipient for 2026—a truly deserving winner 🙌

Grace has enjoyed an exceptional year defined by grit, discipline, and success. She made a powerful statement at the Carlow/Laois/Kilkenny County Championships by claiming senior gold, and carried that winning form into the Varsities where she once again took senior gold. 🎉

Adding to an already incredible sporting career, Grace had the honour of representing Ireland at European level — a true testament to her dedication, talent, and hard work.
