O.B.N Series
Next Saturday is not only the OBN Series Grand Final, it is also the
Presentation of the Prizes from the six Qualifiers. The sponsorship of these qualifiers is at a level way above what is the norm at our club or indeed any other club. We know it won’t suit everyone but we ask that a large number of members of our Men's Club turn up for the prize giving to show our appreciation for the 6 qualifier sponsors. If you have a prize to collect make sure you are there or have someone to represent you at the presentation as the club will not take responsibility for minding prizes.

Up to know I haven't had a chance to say much about the OBN Series Order of Merit. but the Name Mckenna has lead the way the whole way during this years qualifiers. but it wasn't the Mckenna we all expected to top the table. CORA Systems Competition.

To say Philip, his family and CORA are amazing supporters of the Golf club is one of the biggest understatements we will ever make. I’m not sure the OBN Series would even exist without the support and leadership shown by the Martin Family in recent years. All we can say is thank you for all you have done and continue to do.

There were actually 179 players in this weekend record breaking competition. These figures are a fantastic indication of the current trajectory of Carrick on Shannon Golf Club. The product on offer continues to improve and word is spreading.
Scoring was amazing and there were some truly impressive
rounds of golf played. When the gun was to their heads some players stood up and were counted big time, on the other hand, some lads wilted like cut meadow on a sunny day.

The full itinerary for the OBN Series Grand Final. In two weeks time

19/08/2026

Well done to all who played in this weekends record breaking CORA Systems Competition. To say Philip, his family and CORA are amazing supporters of the Golf club is one of the biggest understatements I will ever make. I’m not sure the OBN Series would even exist without the support and leadership shown by the Martin Family in recent years. All I/we can say is thank you for all you have done and continue to do.
There was actually 179 players in this week’s competition (2 more than previously announced). These figures are a fantastic indication of the current trajectory of Carrick on Shannon Golf Club. The product on offer continues to improve and word is spreading.

Young Devin Hanley produced the round of his life, shooting a four-over-par 74 — ten shots better than his 14 handicap!

As we speak, a DNA test has been ordered to determine whose son he really is, as genetics alone can’t explain this form.

Devin loves his golf and has applied himself brilliantly, so I’m delighted for ya. I’m actually even more delighted that you’ve been cut four shots — it might give the rest of us a chance in the Grand Final!

Well done, Devin — our Category 2 winner.

In second place, and undoubtedly the hardest-done man in Ireland this week, was big-hitting Ben Guckian — not to be confused with his father, Brendan, who is short enough off the tee!

Ben also produced the round of his life, scoring 43 points. He had the worst luck in the world to find himself in the same category as Devin.

Don’t worry, Ben — you’ll have loads of time for golf in a few weeks when the championship group stages are over! A great score. Well done.

The old saying, “Middling hurlers make good golfers,” certainly proved true for our third-place finisher, Damien Quigley, who also scored 43 points.

Quigley shot a level-par 70 off his seven handicap. To be honest, his brother-in-law Stephen was of the opinion that he was struggling off seven and would be more comfortable with a double-figure handicap — but what would he know?

Anyone know how Elphin got on this weekend?

Great shooting, Damien. It was a superb round of golf and secured the Category 1 prize.

Fourth place was taken by John Reynolds with 41 points. John is a true gentleman, and I used to do a lot of business with him back in the day when he was in Bank of Ireland.

John has sneaked into the Grand Final by virtue of being our Category 4 winner. Well done, John.

In fifth place was visitor Tadhg McKenna, son of multimillionaire, Private Jet owner, block layer Noel.

Tadhg has enjoyed a fantastic OBN Series, playing some great golf, and is this year’s “Gerry King”-type visitor. Well done, Tadhg.

In 6th with a great score of 40 points and category winner for the second week in a row is Sam Boyle. Sam another young golfer is having a great golfing summer. If your fathers hair is anything to go by you didn’t need to dye yours, you just need to wait a few years. Well done Sam serious shooting. (Category 3 winner)

If Gross winner David McDermott fell out of a window at the moment, he’d go straight up!

Not only did he win the Captain’s Prize after climbing something like 15 positions, but he also scuffed it around on Saturday to shoot a gross 69 — while carrying Fiachra Neary on his back — as all the other low men filled the togs.

Clutch!

See you on the 5th of September.

Our Category 5 winner was David Lawlor. David — husband of Autumn in the office/shop — shot a great round of 39 points and claimed the final place in the Grand Final.

Well done, David. See ya on the 5th!

To everyone else who scored points, well done.

To the rest of ye — tough luck!
