MEN OVER 40, 50 AND 60, SOME OF YOU NEED A GOOD KICK UP THE ARSE! 😂

You're too busy, too tired, too old, your knees are dodgy, your back is fu**ed and apparently you'll start getting fit when life settles down. So sometime around 2047 then?

Funny how we can find three hours to watch football, two hours scrolling through sh*te on our phones and an entire Sunday sitting on our arses, but 30 minutes to look after ourselves is suddenly a major logistical operation.

And before anyone gets offended, I spent years making the same bloody excuses, so I'm not preaching from some fitness pedestal here.

Your comfort zone might feel lovely and cosy, but it's not doing much for your strength, energy, confidence or future health.

You've got ONE body, ONE life and absolutely no guarantee how many healthy years you've got left, so why wouldn't you give yourself the best possible chance of enjoying them?

You don't need to become a gym fanatic, live on chicken and broccoli or start wearing Lycra so tight your neighbours can tell what religion you are. 😂

But for God's sake, stop waiting until you feel ready, get off the bloody fence and do SOMETHING, because the man you'll be at 60, 70 or 80 deserves a bit of effort from the man you are today! 💪🔥

Men over 50, how often do you tell a mate “I’m grand” when you’re anything but?
I’ve done it more times than I can count.

For years, I thought keeping quiet meant I was coping.
Truth is, it just meant I was dealing with everything on my own.

You don’t have to spill your whole life story beside the bus stop when your mate might be trying to catch the bus.

But “I’ve had a rough week; fancy a coffee?” can open the door.
We don’t have to pretend everything’s fine to prove we’re strong.
When you say “I’m grand,” do you mean it?

AT 55, I'M STILL LEARNING EVERYDAY ABOUT EXERCISING. WHICH MY 25-YEAR-OLD SELF WOULDN'T HAVE LISTENED TO. 😂

Just because you CAN lift something doesn't always mean you SHOULD.

Especially when your ego is still 25 but your knees have started making noises like a bag of Rice Krispies. 😂

I used to hate training legs. Now I love training them.

But these days, I'm far more interested in building muscle, staying strong and keeping my body moving well than impressing some fella across the gym with how much weight I can stick on a bar.

That's one reason I've become a big fan of the belt squat.

Here's why. 👇

💪 Less direct loading on the spine. Unlike a traditional barbell squat, the resistance is applied around my hips rather than sitting across my shoulders.

💪 Serious leg training. My quads and glutes still have to work bloody hard. Trust me, they know all about it the following morning!

💪 A useful alternative. If traditional squats aren't comfortable or suitable for you, a belt squat might be another way to train your legs effectively.

💪 It's about longevity. I want to be lifting weights, travelling, enjoying life and generally making a nuisance of myself well into my 70s and beyond. 😂

Now, before the barbell brigade come after me. Im NOT saying barbell squats or hack squats are bad exercises.

They're excellent exercises when they suit the person doing them.

But here's something I wish more people understood.

THERE IS NO COMPULSORY EXERCISE IN THE GYM.

You don't get extra points for doing an exercise that doesn't suit your body.

And you certainly don't need to destroy yourself every session to make progress.

At 55, I still want to build muscle. I still want to get stronger. I still want to challenge myself.

I've just learned that training smarter isn't a sign of getting old. It's a sign of getting wiser.

And if you're in your 40s, 50s or 60s and think your best training days are behind you, I've got news for you.

YOU'RE NOT FINISHED. YOU MIGHT JUST NEED A DIFFERENT APPROACH. 🔥

Getting older is inevitable. Giving up on yourself isn't.

👇 QUESTION: What's one exercise you've swapped out as you've got older, and what do y

Why do you drink alcohol?

Not what do you drink.

Not how much.

Why?

It's something I've been thinking about with Sober October.

I know some of the reasons I drank.

I was shy. I had issues with how I looked. I could feel uncomfortable and anxious in social situations.

Alcohol helped me feel more confident, more relaxed and less self-conscious.

Until, eventually, something I thought was helping me started causing problems of its own.

But this post isn't really about me.

I'm interested in YOU.

Why do you drink?

Because you genuinely enjoy it?

Because it's Friday night and that's just what you've always done?

Stress?

Boredom?

To switch your head off?

To feel more confident socially?

Because everyone around you drinks?

Or have you genuinely never thought about why?

And here's another question I've become fascinated by…

Would you feel comfortable telling your friends you weren't drinking tonight without giving them a reason?

Why do we sometimes feel we have to explain not drinking?

And if you've ever thought about stopping completely, what stopped you?

Would you miss the alcohol itself?

The social side?

Would you worry people might think you'd become boring?

Or would you worry about what you might discover about yourself without it?

I'm not asking because I think everyone should stop drinking.

And I'm certainly not judging anyone who does.

I'm genuinely curious about our relationship with alcohol.

Does it add more to your life than it takes away?

Does it help you become the person you want to be… or occasionally get in that person's way?

And the big one:

If you stopped drinking for the next 30 days, what do you think would change?

Sleep?
Energy?
Mood?
Training?
Weight?
Relationships?
Confidence?

Or absolutely nothing?

I'd genuinely love to hear people's answers.

👇 So tell me: why do YOU drink?

I DIDN’T GET FIT TO SPEND MY LIFE IN A GYM.

I got fit so I could live it.

At 50, I realised I wasn't getting any younger.

And I had two choices.

I could accept getting slower, heavier, more tired and less confident as just part of getting older. Or I could do something about the things I could control.

So I did.

And here's the funny thing.

The biggest rewards haven't been a lower number on the scales or bigger arms.

They're moments like this.

Going on holidays and feeling confident in what I'm wearing.

Walking around all day without being wrecked.

Trying ridiculous things that scare the sh*te out of me. 😂

Eating in great restaurants without guilt.

Having the energy to actually do stuff rather than watching life from the sidelines.

And feeling more confident in my 50s than I did for years before them.

THAT is why I train.

And it's exactly what I want for the men I work with.

You don't need to become a gym obsessive.

You don't need to live on chicken and broccoli.

And you definitely don't need to spend six nights a week staring lovingly at a dumbbell. 😂

You need to become stronger, fitter and healthier so your life outside the gym gets better.

Because the gym isn't the destination.

Your life is.

And if you're in your 40s or 50s thinking, “I'd love to feel like myself again”

Maybe that's your starting point.

Not six months from now.

Not when work gets quieter.

Not when you've lost a few pounds first.

Now.

And yes. Apparently getting fitter also gives you the confidence to sit in a Dubrovnik restaurant pulling faces like this. 🤦‍♂️😂

If you're ready to start but haven't a clue where to begin, drop me a DM with the word START.

This one is personal. ❤️

My mum has been living with Parkinson’s for over 12 years.

After years of taking medication throughout the day, currently around 14 tablets a day, her medical team now wants her to start using the Produodopa pump.

It could potentially give her a more continuous delivery of medication rather than the constant cycle of tablets throughout the day.

But she’s nervous.

And as her family, we have questions too.

So rather than just reading leaflets and Googling, I want to hear from the people who actually LIVE with this.

If you have Parkinson’s, or your mum, dad, partner or someone you love uses Produodopa, I would really appreciate hearing your experience.

The good. The bad. The things nobody warned you about. The little practical things that made life easier.

Did it help?
How was the adjustment?
How manageable is the pump day-to-day?
Would you make the same decision again?

Please comment or DM me if you’d rather keep it private.

And if you know somebody affected by Parkinson’s, I’d really appreciate you sharing this with them. You never know who might see it and be able to help. ❤️
