TCS Amsterdam Marathon 2026.

The 51st running of TCS Amsterdam Marathon took place on Sunday, October 18th 2026. We were delighted to have 3 well prepared J&N Coached athletes complete their marathon training plan to take on the Netherlands flagship running event. The highlight of the Amsterdam marathon weekend are the start and finish at the iconic Olympic Stadium from 1928, the Rijksmuseum, the Vondelpark, the Amstel and the Heineken Experience. The route is known for being flat and fast, with the start and finish located in front of the grandstand in the Olympic Stadium.

Danny Brosnan is no stranger to marathon running in the Netherlands having run his personal best of 2:48:12 at the Eindhoven Marathon last year. This marked a landmark sub 2:50 for Danny a feat he was hoping to equal or better in Amsterdam.
Danny wasn’t hanging around setting about his task with intent as he reached the 5k mark in 19:42 an average pace of 3:36 and he was metronomic in his pacing maintaining an average of 3:53 through halfway with a 21:1k time of 1:21:27. It was no surprise to his J&N Coaches that he continued to give an exhibition of pace running throughout the second half of the race maintaining that 3:53 average all the way. Yes there were a couple of bad patches where Dan had to dig deep but his extensive endurance training saw him through to the finish as he came triumphantly across the finish line in a magnificent new personal best performance of 2:44:54 breaking new ground and dipping under the 2:45 barrier. A superb performance by a very dedicated runner.

Next J&N coached runner home was Paul Breen a man who goes about his work quietly following his training plan diligently. Paul, hoping to get near his PB of 2:53, set off with that intention, reaching 5k in a time of 20:58 and holding that pace through 10k in 41:23 and reaching halfway in a really good split of 1:27:14. Paul worked extremely hard through the second half of the race maintaining a 4:09 per kilometre average. His sheer grit and determination saw him cross the finish line in a fantastic time of 2:55:42. This marks a remarkable run of sub 3 hour marathon runs for Paul and not a million miles off his PB. Consistency in training leads to consistency in race results.

Robbie Parsons is another of the J&N group members that is dedicated to his training plan and training sessions. He went into the Amsterdam event having prepared well and was in great form. For Robbie that 3 hour barrier was his goal and Robbie was determined to put himself in a position to achieve that goal. Robbie set off at a good tempo reaching 5k in 21:28 and continued to hold his pace through 10k in 41.28. He maintained a similar pace to the halfway point clocking 1:29:30. It would require a similar pace or negative split in the second half of the marathon for Robbie to reach his goal. Robbie put in a tremendous effort through the 35k mark in just under 2:30 but was battling hard to shake off the fatigue, only slowing very slightly per kilometre. Battling on intently to the finish he crossed the line in 3:02:12 Robbie just missed out on a PB by 7 seconds, over 26.2 miles a minuscule margin. A fantastic performance from Robbie Parsons showing amazing courage in his pacing throughout.

Congratulations to our Danny, Paul and Robbie you’ve certainly laid the gauntlet down in terms of performance, for our Dublin and New York runners. They will and are no doubt inspired by what you’ve accomplished today.

Enjoy the celebrations.

Chicago Marathon 2026

This year’s 2026 Bank of America Chicago Marathon is expected to see 55,000 registered runners going to the start line making for a record-breaking field for the 48th edition of the race. There were over 200,000 people who applied to run in the 2026 event and while 55,000 spots were allocated, organizers note that roughly 5,000 to 8,000 registered runners typically do not start on race day. Not the case for J&N coached runners, Alan Kennedy, Katie Lyne and Elaine Morrissey who put in a terrific block of endurance training to go to line in great shape to take on the streets of the “Windy City”.

The Chicago Marathon is widely considered one of the easiest, flattest, and fastest major marathon courses in the world, making it a prime choice for setting personal records. On review of the course route the total elevation gain is only 243 feet (74 meters) across the entire 26.2-mile distance, “Mount Roosevelt being the most notable incline, which is a slight short rise on Roosevelt Road just before the finish line on Columbus Drive, which can test tired legs in the final moments. The route features 36 turns as it winds through 29 Chicago neighborhoods. Running the exact "blue line" for tangents can be difficult due to runner congestion. The Illinois. weather is very unpredictable on the autumn (Fall) race-day with weather usually swinging from unseasonably hot and humid to cold and windy. This year’s conditions were expected to be very warm with temperatures in the low to mid 20s. It was a help that the race had an early start with Elaine and Katie starting at just after 7:45 and Alan at 8:15.

Katie Lyne got into her running immediately settling into a nice pace just under 8 min per mile and went through the 5k mark in 24:28 keeping the steady pace through 5miles and reached 10k in 48:59. Katie then reached 15k in 1:13:06 and was holding a good rhythmic pace all the way to the halfway point as she past the 13.1 mile mark in 1:42:59 moving into the second half of her race still showing a good bounce in her step as she reached 25k in 2:01:59 to maintain a strong pace. Reaching the business end of the marathon where the going gets tough Katie got to 30k in 2:27:03 and was now having to dig deep to maintain her pace. Well “dig deep” she certainly did as she hit 35k in 2:53:04 and continued to fight hard to the 40k mark which she reached in 3:20:28. The finish line was now in mind if not in sight as Katie got a new incentive to keep going and she crossed the finish line in a super time of 3:31:45. A fantastic performance after a very busy summer with GAA games and broken training but Katie’s amazing drive and determination saw her through in great style.

Elaine was running her second marathon in just over a month, having run a fine race in the Di**le Marathon clocking 3:45:28 over a very tough course. She has recovered well and set about her task of preparing for Chicago with great attention to detail. As the gun went Elaine eased her way through the first 5k in 24:44 keeping that pace steady, reaching the 10k mark in 49:10 and on to 15k in 1:13:52 keeping that sub 8min pace going to that point. Elaine continued to pace along solidly as she crossed halfway in 1:44:58 and into the second half where her endurance strength would be put to the test. Elaine got to 25k in 2:04:44 still holding a pace just over 8 mins a mile. As she approached 30k mark in 2:31:04 the ever warming weather conditions and the fatigue was setting in, but Elaine continued to battle on, reaching 35k in 2:58:42 and then passed the 40k mark in 3:27:11. Elaine was no doubt in her mind, was battling to get under that 3:40 barrier. A battle she superbly won, showing terrific resilience and strength as she crossed the finish line in 3:38:47 almost 7 mins faster than her Di**le Marathon time last month. A truly outstanding run from Elaine who reaped the rewards of her dedication to her training.

Alan was setting out on the first of two world majors in the space of a few weeks with the New York marathon looming in early November. Alan was proud to be running and raising much needed funds for Children’s Charity “Cliona’s Foundation’. Alan was looking forward to the difficult task as he set off on the Chicago lap of the challenge in a steady fashion reaching 5k in 30:35. He continued to clock off the miles reaching 10k in just over the hour mark and on to 15k in 1:31:10 holding his steady pacing. Alan reached the Halfway point in 2:08:42 and set about the next 13.1 miles. Nothing comes easy in marathon running, you earn your medal at the end when you cross that finish line and that’s what was what Alan had to do as he continued to clock off the kilometres to the 30k mark reaching that point in 3:06:28. With almost 3 quarters of the race completed, survival mode is required to the finish. It’s always great to run your fasted time, but those of you who have ever completed a marathon will know that the only thing that really matters is crossing that finish line. It’s the number one goal that should always be the mindset. It was fantastic to see Alan successfully negotiate those very difficult closing miles to finish in 4:33:44 and another marathon completed for Alan. Another marathon story to be told for many years to come no doubt. A fantastic accomplishment a credit to his family and the worthy charity he raised funds for, congratulations Alan.

J&N Coaching & Training Group extends our heartfelt congratulations to our 3 mighty Chicago Marathon Warriors today, for not only their amazing accomplishments in their chosen event, but for the inspiration they have given to our other 60 plus group members who take on the Amsterdam, Dublin and New York Marathons in the coming weeks. Our 3 Heroes today have given everyone the confidence to go and achieve their own goals.

Waterford County Senior Cross County Championship 2026.

The Waterford County senior cross-country championships were held on Sunday 11th October in Tramore .

It was a baptism of fire for Conor Mulligan, taking part in his first cross country in 12 years so it was a fair shock to the system.
But Conor settled into his race and pulled away to take 5th overall in 29:11 to score alongside his team members who took gold team. Well done Conor.

A solid strong performance from Gary Cantwell to finish in 7th place in 30:15.
Well done lads.
