💚🤍 Clonmel AC Marathon Round-Up 🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️

Another fantastic few weeks of marathon running for Clonmel AC athletes, with impressive performances across Melbourne, Chicago and Berlin!

🇦🇺 Melbourne Marathon

Cathal De Faoite – 2:36:34

Cathal produced a very impressive performance in Melbourne this past weekend, running 2:36:34. Having been based in Australia over the past year, it’s brilliant to see his running continuing to go from strength to strength. Cathal adds to the impressive depth of marathon talent within the club. Well done, Cathal! 👏

🇺🇸 Chicago Marathon

Chicago, one of the world’s fastest marathon courses, saw three of our athletes take on the challenge.

🏃‍♀️ Elaine Morrissey – 3:38:47

A fantastic run from Elaine, who did a wonderful job balancing her marathon training around her coaching commitments with our young juveniles. We’re hugely grateful for the time and dedication she gives to the next generation of Clonmel AC athletes. Congratulations, Elaine, on a brilliant performance!

🏃‍♀️ Katie Lyne – 3:31:45

A fantastic performance from Katie, who ran an impressive 3:31:45 on the streets of Chicago. Congratulations, Katie, on a brilliant marathon!

🏃‍♂️ Alan Kennedy – 4:33:44

Alan also took on the streets of Chicago, running an excellent 4:33:44. Great running, Alan!

🇩🇪 Berlin Marathon

Mick Pender – 3:11:01

Back in September, Mick Pender continued to go from strength to strength with an impressive 3:11:01 in Berlin. Congratulations, Mick, on a fantastic marathon performance!

A huge well done to all four athletes for their hard work and dedication. It’s brilliant to see Clonmel AC represented on the marathon stage around the world! 🌍💚🤍

Sean Tobin runs 64:36 in Cardiff Half Marathon

Sean was part of the elite field in the Cardiff Half Marathon last week. While he didn’t have the perfect day out, he still finished in 10th and put a very good time on the board.

Sean is in his final preparations for the marathon and will be part of a large club team heading to the National Marathon Championships in Dublin in 2 weeks time.

County Novice & Junior XC Results:

The county cross country season returned on Sunday and it was great to see a strong group competing for the club.

There were good performances at the front of both the men’s and women’s races, with Ross McCarthy leading out the men’s race for the first lap and stayed on strong to finish 4th in a very competitive field. Ruby Carroll also led out the women’s race and finished an impressive 2nd to Orla Healy of Moyne AC.

In the women’s race Sarah Whelan (6th) and Lisa Byrne (11th) performed very well to combine with Ruby and take silver for Clonmel AC.

Perhaps the most encouraging part of the day was the amount of new faces to cross country, or athletes returning after a few years away.

In the women’s race regular cross country runners like Ruby Caroll, Sarah Whelan, Sareen Walsh and Marina Quinlan were joined by Lisa Byrne, Roise Flaherty, Cailin Napier and Stephanie Byrne who were either completely new to XC or back after a few years.

Similarly in the men’s race, the likes of Ross McCarthy, Laurence Martin, Vasily and Trevor Whelan would be more familiar with cross country running, while Lorcan O’Keeffe, Michael Lancaster, Barry Horgan, Michael Carroll and James O’Brien were either competing in cross country for the first time or back after a few years away.

Finally there were 3 very good performances in the junior races from Hannah Murray, Lily Casey and Ludmila Podzimkova.

Well done to everyone involved.

Abbott & the Dillon Quirke Foundation

At training on Tuesday evening we welcomed a group from Abbott who have kindly donated a set of singlets for our juveniles as part of their work with the Dillon Quirke Foundation.

To date Abbott has contributed over €250,000 to the foundation, which helps provide free cardiac screening to children and teenagers.

While the vast majority of participants receive an all-clear, the screenings have crucially identified a small number of underlying, undiagnosed heart conditions early, allowing young people to receive life-saving medical interventions.

Clonmel AC were lucky to be one of the beneficiaries of this in 2025, where close to 50 of our young members availed of the screenings.

We are very grateful to Abbott Clonmel for the work they are doing in this area and allowing us to be part of it, and also for the singlets which will be put to good use over the coming months!
