St Patrick's Athletic FC 1-1 Dundalk FC

With a host of European games taking place this week, the clash at Richmond Park was the sole fixture in the League of Ireland Premier Division on Friday evening.

It was a bright start from Pat’s, who created a host of chances in the opening 20 minutes. After early appeals for a handball penalty, Anto Breslin finished the phase of play by blasting the ball over the bar from close range.

Moments later, Breslin’s first-time cross found Aidan Keena, who should have done better with the finish but sent his effort wide of the goal.

The Shed End Invincibles took some time out of the game to display a banner expressing their opinion on the potential ground share between St Pat’s and Bohemians at Richmond Park next season. Reading, “No Rivals in Richmond,” sending a clear message.

Ryan Edmundson should have done better with an effort that was saved by the on-rushing Dundalk goalkeeper, Enda Minogue.

Dundalk grew into the game as the half wore on. Trevor Clarke saw his shot come back off the post before Daryl Horgan broke the deadlock, smashing home from the penalty spot.

The Saints found themselves behind at half-time when they could easily have been in front. They were further angered when Rob Cornwall avoided a second yellow card after the ball bounced off his arm just before the break.

Pats came out strongly in the second half, with Keena looking like their most dangerous outlet. His shot was deflected just wide before Kian Leavy saw his effort brilliantly turned around the post by Minogue. However, the resulting corner saw Seán Hoare’s header bring the sides level at 1-1.

Pats pushed for a winner, and the home fans behind the goal thought they had one, but Luke Turner’s header was gathered by Minogue after a scramble on the goal line.

Dundalk had a chance to take all three points back to Louth when the lively Mayowa Animashaun sent a header wide in injury time.

It finished all square in Inchicore after an at-times feisty encounter. Pats will feel they should have taken all three points and closed the gap on league leaders Shamrock Rovers. The draw moves them into second place, ahead of Bohemians on goal difference.

Bohemian FC 2-1 FC Ballkani 🇽🇰


On what was the final European evening at Dalymount Park before its refurbishment, Bohs made it an unforgettable one by doing it the hard way, coming from behind to beat Ballkani 2-1.

Bohs made a decent start to the game, creating a few chances here and there. Conor Whelan came closest, but his header went over the bar.

Bohemians fell 1-0 behind just before the half-hour mark after Toni Domgjoni converted from the penalty spot and as the half wore on, Bohs struggled to come up with ideas to break down the well-organised Kosovo side.

It was more of the same after the restart, with a few chances at either end, while the Phibsborough crowd did everything they could to help inspire the hosts.

It wasn’t until the 75th minute that the Gypsies finally got their breakthrough. Substitute Douglas James-Taylor fired a low shot across goal that rolled in off the post.

Bohs pushed for a winner, with Flores coming closest. But with added time looming, it was Ross Tierney who produced a rasper of a shot from outside the box, finding the top corner to send the ground into mayhem.

A night to remember at Dalymount, and Bohs now head to Kosovo with a deserved 2-1 lead to defend in next Thursday’s return leg.
