The sun comes up on another day at Monkstown Golf Club.

The 11th hole demands accuracy from the tee. If you have it in your bag, a gentle left to right shape is ideal, as the fairway naturally cambers from right to left.

The green is beautifully positioned and angled, with excellent bunker protection placing a premium on a precise approach.

You are now entering a superb stretch of the golf course, leading into Monkstown’s strong and memorable finishing holes.

Starting out around 2020, our course officer and course committee, supported by the management group at Monkstown Golf Club, led by Frank Egan, Mick McGuire, Head Greenkeeper Martin Travers, set out with the professional team at the club initiating the project of renovating all bunkers at Monkstown. Yes, drainage was an issue and needed to be improved, but also the natural evolution of the golf course had to be taken into account with the way the game has changed over the years. The club set out to engage with Kearney of Ken Kearney Golf Design and Dar Golf, and over two phases, back nine first, and then the second phase was completing the front nine, all bunkers were remodeled and reshaped to really add to the character of Monkstown and to enhance the offering for the modern golfer. It's fair to say that the expertise from all involved has helped create a wonderful finished product and will allow Monkstown Golf Club to stand the test of time as a challenge to golfers of all levels, regardless of what tees you are playing off. Pictured below is a stunning view of the approach into the eighth green and how well the bunkers are presented and how they will get the golfer's full attention whilst playing.

2026 Local League Finals at Monkstown

Monkstown Golf Club were delighted to host the Local League Final, warmly welcoming our friends from Cork Golf Club, Douglas Golf Club and Muskerry Golf Club.

The six competitions contested were the Utmost, Topmost, Mixed Most, Summer Shield, Junior League and Senior League.

From a Monkstown perspective, we were delighted to come away with victories in the Utmost, Topmost, Summer Shield, Junior League and Senior League. While a touch of home course familiarity may have helped along the way, we are genuinely very proud of all our players and team managers for their efforts and commitment.

Most importantly, the day was played in a fantastic spirit from start to finish, with enjoyable golf, plenty of smiles and a real sense of camaraderie throughout. It was especially nice to see new friendships formed and existing ones renewed among players, team managers, club officers, management and staff.

Our sincere thanks go to Cork Golf Club, Douglas Golf Club and Muskerry Golf Club for their participation and for helping make the day such a success. We are also very grateful to our club caterers for the excellent food and warm hospitality provided to all visiting teams.

HOLE-IN-ONE! Alert!

A wonderful moment for John O’Reilly, who recorded his first-ever hole-in-one yesterday on the 6th hole at Monkstown!

Congratulations to Amy McAuliffe, Cadhla McDonnell and Julia Daly winning round 2 of the Girls Harbour Shield against Douglas with great golf and very sporting matches.

Further congratulations to Clodagh Hosford, Orlaith Phelan and Olivia Daly winning round 2 of the Plate against Douglas. A wonderful day had by all and we look forward to Blarney in the next round.
