An interesting and highly informative talk from our Vice Chairperson Gabriel Doherty this evening on the impact of the Irish Civil War on Gaelic Games in Cork at Pairc Ui Chaoimh.

For anyone who is interested, there will be a talk in Páirc Uí Chaoimh tomorrow (7.30-c9.30pm. Thursday) on the subject of gaelic games (GAA and camogie) during the Civil War in Cork, with a preliminary look back at relevant events during the War of Independence and Truce, and taking the story down to the end of 1923 (finishing with the pressure that was exerted on the GAA in particular to use its influence to effect the release of the republican prisoners still detained at that time, several months after the end of the military conflict). It’s an interesting story and covers a wide range of topics, with more than a few modern overtones (restoration of club and county activity after long shutdowns, complaints that football was dead in the county, hurlers apparently under-achieving and being soundly beaten by a powerful Limerick side…)
The lecture is in one of the meeting rooms (exact one TBC) on floor 2 of the South Stand, with access via the main entrance.

Great game tonight as our U15s played Midleton in a challenge match, a warm-up for both teams ahead of Féile later this month. Both teams showing great skill throughout the match, playing with determination to the final whistle.

Big thank you to the U14s playing up tonight, they more than pulled their weight against strong opposition.

Thanks for Midleton for hosting.

Well done to our U12s for the fantastic performances in the Caman to Munster blitz today in Mallow, competing against clubs across Munster and doing Douglas and Cork proud. Many thanks to Treaty Gaels Camogie Club & Bruff Camogie Club from Limerick, Cappoquin Camogie Club from Waterford and Broadford Clare Camogie for the excellent games and to the Camogie Association for organising such a great day. The U16's made the short trip to Ovens to take on Éire Óg Camogie Club in a challenge match this evening. Great opportunity for both teams to get some game time in ahead of Féile and the Leagues.

Thanks to Éire Óg for hosting, the pitch was in great condition despite the record rainfall in March!

Here’s a blast from the past. The Echo reporting on the launch of Douglas ladies football club in February 2008

On Sunday the U5 and U6 Dual Players enjoyed their Easter Disco Party with Dj Bertie and Bob the Minion. There were dance offs, there was limbo and most importantly there was candyfloss! The players, coaches, and parents had a great time.

Special thanks to Liz who came in early to open up the club for us.
