The 2026 Waterways Ireland Row for It League reaches its exciting conclusion this Sunday, 2 August, at the Carrick Sprint Regatta in Carrick-on-Shannon.

After five competitive rounds of racing, clubs and crews from across the country will battle it out one final time for valuable league points as the overall standings are decided.

A huge thank you to Waterways Ireland for their continued support of the Row for It League and rowing clubs across the island.

A great many thank yous are in order now that the dust has settled on an extraordinary weekend of international competition for 80 Irish rowers in three different countries at the U23 World Rowing Championships, Coupe de la Jeunesse, and the Home International Rowing Regatta.

New dates confirmed for the 2026 Rowing Ireland 1K Classic!

The 1K Classic has been rescheduled and will now take place on 19–20 September at Lough Rinn, Co. Leitrim.

The event information on Tracker has been updated, and the Organising Committee hopes to run the same programme of events originally planned for the June regatta.

The final day of the World Under-23 Rowing Championships brought one more moment to savour for Ireland.
At just 18 years of age, Sophia Young produced a performance of maturity far beyond her years to win Silver in the Women's Single Sculls, standing on a World Under-23 podium in her very first season at this level. Racing fearlessly from the opening strokes, Sophia stayed in touch with the highly fancied Romanian sculler throughout, refusing to let the race drift away and crossing the line in 7:30.96, remarkably close to the eventual champion. It was another reminder that Irish rowing has an exceptional young athlete whose best years are still ahead of her.
There was another encouraging performance in the inaugural Mixed Double Sculls, where Jonah Kirby and Holly Davis finished an excellent fifth in a high-quality World Championship final. Coming together for the first time on the international stage, they showed composure, speed and enormous potential in an event that feels destined to become a permanent part of the international rowing landscape. Mixed rowing brings a fresh dimension to our sport, and I believe it is here to stay.
Looking back across the week, Ireland leaves Duisburg with medals, finals and performances that speak of something deeper than results alone. We saw courage under pressure, young athletes embracing the biggest stage of their careers, and crews racing with conviction against the very best in the world.
From Jack Rafferty and Jonah Kirby's thrilling bronze, to the Women's Four claiming the B Final, and now Sophia Young's outstanding podium finish, this championship has shown the strength of a generation coming through together.
The future of Irish rowing isn't waiting for tomorrow.
It has already arrived.

A World Championship podium moment for Ireland!

Jack Rafferty and Jonah Kirby secured a superb bronze medal performance in the Men's Double Sculls at the 2026 World Rowing Under-23 Championships in Duisburg.

The reigning Under-19 World Champions delivered an outstanding performance to earn a place on the world podium in their first season racing at Under-23 level.

Ireland's championships continue tomorrow, with Sophia Young racing in the Women's Single Sculls A Final at 10:18am, followed by Jonah Kirby and Holly Davis in the U23 Mixed Double Sculls at 11:06am.
