Corrective exercise & functional strength retraining. For pain free living

Photos from Liz Cronin - Physical / Movement Therapies's post 06/05/2026

This came up in the studio this week…

Most people haven’t done the wrong thing.
They’ve just been missing a piece.
That’s where this work fits. 🔥

This came up in the studio during our upper body workshop on Sunday.

We had a room full of women and instead of jumping straight into exercises, we started with a few simple assessments.

Specifically four movements.

Nothing dramatic.
Just enough to see how each shoulder and upper body was actually moving.

Everyone’s movement told a different story.

For some, the rib cage wasn’t moving well, limiting rotation.
For others, the issue showed up through the rotator cuff, and we were able to narrow down exactly which part. Some women noticed tension in places that shouldn’t have been working so hard, because those areas were trying to create stability for something that wasn’t doing its job properly.

So instead of forcing strength where it didn’t belong, we worked backwards. 🔐

Bitta release.
Bitta lengthening.
Then gradually restoring movement.✨

Once the body understood the movement again, then we loaded it. 👌

Isolate → integrate → strengthen.

That’s the depth of what we do in the studio.

Because the win isn’t just doing the exercise.

It’s understanding what your body actually needs.

Here for it 😎

Mam & Dad ❤️
Much younger here than I am now.

Just two people at the start of it all.

So proud of them. So grateful for them.

The only reason I started studying, and now teach Pilates as part of my approach…

is because I spent years looking at how the body creates real stability:
the relationship between the deep support system and the big, powerful muscles.

You can’t train one without the other.

Most people only ever train the outside.

Which is why they feel constantly tight.

Not because they need more stretching…

…but because they need more support from the inside.

That way of thinking is what eventually pulled me toward Pilates.

Not as a trend.

As a tool.

What I love about it is the principles:

Centering.
Concentration.
Control.
Precision.
Breath.
Flow.

They encourage you to slow down.

Not to make things easier, but in fact to make them better.

Last week I asked a room full of women:

“Doesn’t that feel ridiculously satisfying?”

Every head nodded.

That quiet confidence when your body starts doing what you ask again.

Whether we’re on the mat, lifting, or working through joint work, even when a session has a main focus, it’s always informed by the bigger picture.

Everything speaks the same language.

Education first.
Always.

Here for it 🤍

Be serious.

If your job has you standing, lifting, bending or reaching for hours, your body is doing far more work than you realise.

Here are the early signs it’s asking for support:

1) One sided aches after shifts
Lower back. Neck. Hips. Calves.
That constant “one side worse than the other” feeling isn’t random.🫠

2) Tightness that doesn’t shift
Stretching helps… but only for an hour.
That usually means the tissue is overloaded. 🫥

3) Fatigue that sits in the body
Heavy legs after work?
Shoulders creeping up by lunchtime.😬
Jaw clenched before you even notice.🫣

That’s where Sports Massage & Neuromuscular Therapy come in, not as a luxury, but as maintenance for people who work hard with their bodies.

When pain starts creeping in from work, it doesn’t just affect how you feel…
it affects your diary, your earnings, and the people relying on you.

The goal isn’t to push through until something forces you to stop.

It’s to stay ahead of problems.

Early signs to pay attention to:

• That same shoulder every evening
• Hip or back stiffness after long days
• Neck tightness that never fully leaves
• Legs that feel heavy before the week is out
• Fatigue sitting in the body, not just the head

This is where Sports Massage & Neuromuscular Therapy come in, not as a luxury, but as part of staying available for work.

✨Reduce overload.
✨Support recovery.
✨Keep showing up.
