We are deeply saddened on the passing of John O'Leary.
John was one of Avondales most popular and without doubt classiest players and he took Avondale to many successes in leagues and cups with our Junior and Senior teams.
John captained our Senior team to the Munster Senior League title in 1993 and on 19th February 1995. He played a pivotal role when Avondale beat Longford Town in FAI Senior Cup in Avondale Park in what was seen as a shock result on the day.
John played a huge part in the Avondale United Football Club story and he will be forever fondly remembered.
John was also a renowned pitch and put player and when he was a 17 year old he won the Irish Senior Championship in 1983 in his home club Dunlops Social Club when defeating Michael Forrest in a dramatic 36 hole final that went all the way to the final green to the delight of huge local support. The following year John went on to represent Ireland England where he halved his two games.
Again our deepest sympathy to his wife Lucia his son David who is one our Senior players and to daughter Ellen, his mother Madge and to his very many friends.

Sad news to report today of the passing of John O Leary. John played for Avondale many years ago and was a great all round sports man. Our Condolences to his Son David one of our Senior players and to Lucia, Ellen and extended family . May John Rest in peace. Full details on RIP.

Today is a historic day for Avondale United. The sale of Avondale Park is now complete.

On behalf of the club, we like to sincerely thank everyone who played a part in making this happen, especially our past and current committees, whose vision and commitment over many decades made today possible.

A very special mention must go to Paddy Scannell, who, in the 1980s, had the foresight and courage to put forward his own funds to help purchase the land. Without that extraordinary commitment, today may never have been possible.

We would also like to thank our specialist sub-committee, who worked tirelessly behind the scenes over the past number of years to see this deal through. Their dedication, professionalism and persistence have been instrumental in bringing this historic project to a successful conclusion.
We now look forward to building a fantastic new home for Avondale United and securing the club's future for generations to come.
