Rebel Og Ground Hurling Final
Rebel Og have been running a ground hurling competition over the past number of weeks in the 4g pitches in Pairc Ui Chaoimh at U15 level. Teams have been competing in a round robin type competition with the winning teams progressing to the final for the Dick Barrett Shield which has been brought back into circulation.
The Final will take place in St. Oliver Plunketts GAA Club on Sunday 4th December at 12 noon.
Ballinhassig vs Bishopstown
Finalists will receive an especially commissioned Dick Barrett Centenary Commemoration medal by Cork County Board with the winning team receiving the Dick Barrett Shield. All welcome to attend to watch some ground hurling in action, a rare sight in todays GAA scene!

In Ireland and also those doing Irish family research into their ancestry from America and other parts tend to look exclusively on the records of the church parish registers of their ancestors. While this is an essential component of genealogy, the role of Civil Parish records are equally critical. As Civil Parishes may be a little more challenging I have provided a guide for those in the Clonakilty and West Cork area. This is very basic, but hopefully it will get you started.

Searching the Census Returns of 1901 and 1911 is a very enjoyable and interesting way of conducting family research. You will often be side tracked on uncovering some famous individual or ancestor you never knew existed. My grandfather was named Michael Collins, but he was not the historic figure recorded on this census image. That ten year old boy is now immortalised in Irish history.
