The second edition of the Irish Sailing League has been postponed. The second instalment was due to take place on the weekend of the 10th and 11th of May 2025.
The reason for postponement is very simple, a lack of entries or a lack of entries on time for the event.
Organisers are looking at an alternative date later in the year.
it is very disappointing for the organisers who put much effort into running the event

The second edition of the Irish Sailing League is just a month away. Promoter Kenneth Rumball is encouraging participants to secure their entries.
This year’s event features a one-design keelboat fleet and robotic marks. It also enjoys support from Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council.
The Royal Irish Yacht Club will serve as the host venue. Rumball notes, “Last year’s event showcased the tightest, fastest keelboat racing in the country.”
Competitors do not need to bring their own boats, as everything will be provided. “Just come along and race,” he added.
The league returns to Dun Laoghaire this May where it is scheduled to take place over the weekend of the 10th & 11th of May.
As regular Afloat readers know, with Sam Hunt at the helm, Kinsale Yacht Club emerged as the top sailing club in Ireland after two days of 2024 competition on Dublin Bay.

Irish Sailing League Formally Launched for 2025
The Irish Sailing League was launched today in Dun Laoghaire, Co. Dublin. This will be the second running of the Irish Sailing League following a hugely successful inaugural event in April 2024. There is understandably much anticipation and excitement building for this year’s event which is scheduled to take place over the weekend of the 10th & 11th May and will be based from the Royal Irish Yacht Club.
The League aims to attract five person teams of mixed genders from clubs across the country and the format will be run in the form of umpired fleet racing consisting of a series of up to 30 races over two days. League racing is unique where races are aimed to be around 15 minutes long with almost no downtime between. Depending on the number of teams, usually one or two teams are ‘resting’ or changing over while the other teams race in a format similar to team racing. This gives great intensity over short racecourses where every result counts.
The Irish National Sailing & Powerboat School’s one design fleet of J80s will provide the action for the event. This fleet, which has been a one design fleet from new is the only truly matched fleet in Ireland as evidenced by the closeness of the racing in the league last year. The fleet is tuned and fitted out to the exact same specifications to ensure the closeness of racing.
Kenny Rumball of the Irish Sailing League and the INSS.ie said “I am delighted to see the strong interest in the league so far with the young team from Schull first to log an entry and I’m really looking forward to running another successful event. We have gathered an exceptionally strong race management team again this year led by Barry O’Neill who brings exceptional experience having run league events in Switzerland before.”

Kinsale Yacht Club emerged as the winner of the inaugural Irish Sailing League 2024 after 20 races sailed off Dun Laoghaire on Sunday.
The light wind league was hosted by the Royal Irish Yacht Club and organised by Kenny Rumball and his Irish National Sailing School team in the school’s fleet of J80 keelboats.
According to provisional results (below), the 20-race event—with no discard—saw Kinsale finish on 98 points five points ahead of Dublin rivals, the Royal St. George Yacht Club
The Kinsale winners were Sam Hunt, Micheal O’Suilleabhain, Sorcha O’Suilleabhain, Ben Fusco and Mike Carroll, who were presented with the inaugural Irish Sailing League Cup and winners medals by league organiser Kenny Rumball.
Courtown Sailing Club from County Wexford finished third with 106 points.
In a successful staging that featured many firsts for an Irish regatta, the organisers pioneered the use of robotic marks, which have been hailed as a great success.
Conditions were such that virtually every course changed with regard to wind strength and direction, and Race Officer Barry O’Neill told Afloat that “the event would not have been possible without robotics.”
