🚀 Exciting News! 🚀
Hey, Barry here!
I’m excited to announce my new course: The Foundations of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for Beginners! 🥋
📝 What’s in the Course?
A 20-class, flexible course designed specifically for beginners. Perfect for those new to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu or looking to refine their fundamentals. With over 21 years of coaching experience, I’ve condensed all the essential techniques and principles you need to get started.
❓ Why This Course?
As Bruce Lee once said, “Learning is about chiseling away the non-essentials.” In Jiu-Jitsu, reaching the Black Belt is more about focusing on the essentials and mastering the fundamentals. This course is designed to teach you how to learn effectively and apply techniques in real situations.
📅 Flexible Schedule
Classes run 3 times a week, but you can attend at your own pace. Miss a class? No worries—you can easily catch up the next time around!
👶 Beginner-Friendly
Start anytime! No previous experience or knowledge of prior classes needed. You’ll learn everything from scratch, with each class building on the basics.
🥋 Expert Coaches
Learn from experienced Brown and Black Belt coaches who actively compete and train. They’re on the mats with you, showing what works through real-world practice.
➡️ What’s Next?
After completing the course, you can move on to our Mixed Level Classes or repeat the cycle to further strengthen your skills.
🗓️ First Class Starts: Monday, June 10th at 6:30 PM.

We have good news and bad news-
The good news is that our kids programmes are very popular with both parents and kids. Our atmosphere and coaching style means that people tell their friends to bring their kids here.
The bad news is that this means our kids programmes operate close to capacity for 9 months of the year. The summer months are a little more quiet but we're still busy here right now!
So we're recommending that you pre-register your kids for September. The spaces in the classes in the image above are estimates of how many kids we can take into each session on September.
Go to our website now and fill out the short form there for us to get back to you.
We hope to see you here soon!
Setting up the front headlock. It's a natural instinct to want to grab the head. At the beginner level, we discourage people from focusing too much on headlocks. In a lot of cases it's a major mistake and costs you your position.
But as you develop, you start to understand when you can cause your opponent trouble with headlocks, and when to let go!

Everyone has seen a football match, so if you go to play football for the very first time, you'll know basically what to do. Same for boxing, tennis, cricket...
But when you go to learn Jiu Jitsu for the first time, your first step needs to be tailored to your experience. You've more than likely never seen a Jiu Jitsu match before, and even if you have, you're unlikely to know what the hell was going on! We know this about our martial art, don't worry!
So our goal is to make it easier to start and understand, and that's where Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Foundations comes in. It's a course that gets you started in a structured way.

NEW CLASS ADDED! 🥋
We've restructured a little and added a brand new NoGi session on a Wednesday. Ever wonder what our class names mean? Here's a brief explanation.
🥋THE CLASS TYPES
Jiu Jitsu- Brazilian Jiu Jitsu trained in the Gi (cotton suit) and belt. This is the main form of Jiu Jitsu we teach. You can gab and grip your opponent's Gi to help you control him.
NoGi- Jiu Jitsu trained in Shorts and a rashguard. Here, there are no clothing grips, so you learn how to control your opponent in other ways more similar to wrestling.
-
🥋THE LEVELS
Foundations Jiu Jitsu- This is our entry level Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Course for complete and total beginners who know NOTHING about grappling or martial arts of any kind.
Mixed Level- Jiu Jitsu for every level. Fundamental grappling techniques taught, drilled, and trained with sparring. For those who se Jiu Jitsu as a hobby, as a way of getting fit, and as a way to progress through our grading system.
Competition- The sport of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu taught as a combat sport. Trained as an athletic sport with focus on how to win competitive matches in the sport of IBJJF style Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Our goal here is to ready you for national and international competition.
Whatever level you choose to train at depends on your personal goals. Some want to be among the medalists, others want to learn the art of Jiu Jitsu. We focus equally on both type of student.

We had our P*e Wee Brazilian Jiu Jitsu class belt promotions last night. The P*e Wees are between 7 and 9 years old, and they learn Jiu Jitsu skills as well as improving their fitness, confidence, and social skills. We focus first on making good qualities like honesty of effort and sportsmanship, and then the skill follows naturally.
Congratulations to all of our little guys and girls for their new belts and stripes, and here's looking forward to a great summer of training!

Nathan Kelly and Graham Doolan .doolan.manual.therapy both received their first degree black belts from Barry Oglesby last month.
The two guys are black belts of two different kinds. Nathan is a professional MMA fighter who will be in the 3 Arena on the 22nd of June and has fought around the world including in the famed Madison Square Garden.
Graham is a busy self-employed family man. But he finds time to train when he can as much as he can, often sneaking onto the mat for a few rounds at the end of sessions.
Both are Kyuzo Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belts, dedicated to the art.

3. You can repeat the cycle as many times as you like- you might want to brush up on more detail.
4. Once you complete the cycle, you can move on to our Mixed Level Classes, or choose to run the cycle again.

Our Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Foundations Course is designed to be flexible. There are 20 sessions to complete, and they run on a cycle.

It means that you don't have to worry about committing to a course that demands you attend every class every week. We're all working, with families or other commitments, so we know you're not going to be able to get to every class all of the time. You won't miss out if you miss a session, you'll just catch it again on the next cycle around.
