A member said something to me recently that got me thinking.
She was saying that her sister is coming to our classes 2-3 times a week and loves them but she’s been encouraging her to get to the gym too because she needs to be doing some resistance training.
And she’s absolutely right, women need strength training, especially during perimenopause and menopause.
But it made me realise that a lot of people don’t know that what we do in Reformer Pilates IS strength training.
The springs on the reformer provide resistance, which means your muscles are working against a load, just like they would in the gym.
We also use props like dumbbells, kettlebells, Pilates balls, bands and the magic circle in our classes to build strength, improve balance and support bone health.
So do you really need a gym membership to strength train?
Absolutely not!
If you’re attending Reformer Pilates consistently, you’re already doing resistance training.
The most important thing is finding a form of strength training that you enjoy and will stick to.
For many women, that’s Reformer Pilates. 💛

A dynamic fusion of Reformer Pilates and Barre training. This full-body workout combines the strength-building benefits of the reformer with the endurance, balance, and sculpting elements of barre. Using the reformer and a variety of props, you’ll build strength, improve posture, and enhance flexibility all while developing greater body awareness. Suitable for all fitness levels.
Our Postnatal Pilates will return to Wednesday morning at 10.30, BYOB (bring your own baby) 😅 Please note, you must be cleared by your GP to return to exercise.
Our Prenatal Pilates will begin on a slightly later date announced soon.
