Training hard for Croke Park… and it’s bringing me right back to the road to the Olympic Games.

Same early mornings. Same obsession with getting better. Same belief that one moment can change everything.

Funny how life comes full circle.
Now we wait and hope Croke Park gets the green light. 🥊☘️

Due to high demand, we have scheduled an extra Boxing Fundamentals workshop by Pete Taylor for the first quarter. Register now, as spaces are limited. This workshop is part of the Continuing Education program for trainer-coaches.

This workshop consists of two sessions. In the morning, the trainers analyze a boxer’s match; to beat him, a game plan is devised and translated into training drills that the trainers will carry out themselves. This improves their own boxing skills, enabling them to better explain exercises to their pupils. After lunch, competitive boxers receive training from Pete. The trainers can choose to observe or participate.

Participating trainer-coaches earn one point for their Continuing Professional Education. License holders who have not yet earned a point by 2025 will have the opportunity to catch up in the first quarter of 2026. The workshop is in English.

Date: Saturday, March 21, 2026.
Time: 10:00 to approx. 16:00. Doors open from 09:30.
Location: BoxingGym Holzken, Turnhoutlaan 3, Eindhoven
Lunch: bring your own, the canteen is open
For whom: trainer-coaches (KSS3 diploma or obtained before 2005) who wish to continue their development and keep their license valid*.
Price: free participation.
Preparation: no, but do bring a pen and paper.
Clothing: sportswear and a towel.
Sign up: email [email protected] .
When registering, please indicate whether you will be training or observing the second session and whether you are bringing a boxer. This will allow us to make a good estimate of the group actively participating and adjust our approach accordingly. Boxers must have match experience and a valid license. The expected start time of the second session will be around 13:30.

Assistant trainer-coaches and trainees may register, but priority is given to trainer-coaches with a Continuing Professional Education (CPE) obligation.

Left Hook with a Slope (Hard to Roll Under)

Most people throw a flat left hook.
That’s easy to roll under.

Here’s how to add a slight slope so it lands cleaner:

1️⃣ Start with the legs
Push lightly from the left foot. Turn the hip and shoulder together. Power comes from rotation, not the arm.

2️⃣ Elbow slightly down, not level
Don’t throw the elbow flat across. Let it sit a touch lower so the punch travels downward at a shallow angle.

3️⃣ Knuckles travel cheek → jawline
Think diagonal, not horizontal. The glove cuts across and down instead of straight across.

4️⃣ Finish with the shoulder covering the chin
Your left shoulder should rise as the hook lands. This keeps you protected and tight.

5️⃣ Why it works
When an opponent tries to roll under, they roll into the punch instead of under it. The slope takes away their escape.

The biomechanics of punching can’t be practised enough.
They should be the cornerstone of your warm-up.”

Skill before sweat. Always.

01/01/2026

Move your head. Don’t wait for the punch.
Especially on the ropes.
The ropes don’t protect you — movement does.
If you’re static, you’re getting hit

Reaching gets you countered. Mechanics get you inside.”
• “Every punch should move your body forward safely.”
• “If you step before you rotate — you’re late.”
