📌 Dublin Clubs Roundup, 15 - 19 July 2026, Lindie Naughton

FAST TIME FOR HEALY IN LONDON
With the European Championships just three weeks away, Sarah Healy (UCD AC) ran a personal best 8 mins 25.63 secs to finish third in the women’s 3000m at the London Diamond League meet on Saturday (July 18). That time knocked over a second off her previous best of 8:27.02 set last season. It means that Healy maintains her place as the second fastest Irishwoman ever over the distance behind Sonia O’Sullivan who ran 8:21.64 in 1994; coincidentally, also at the London meet. In the women’s Para 100m, Orla Comerford (Raheny Shamrock AC) proved the class of the field winning in a personal best 11.79 secs, while in the men’s 4 x 100m relay, the Irish men’s team that finished fifth in 39.17 secs.

In Rieti, Italy at a the European Athletics U18 Championships on Sunday (July 19) Charlie O’Neill (Donore Harriers) finished fourth with a time of 3:57.86 in the 1500m, missing out on a medal by an agonising 0.16 of a second. Earlier in the week, Evelyn Kwik (DSD AC) had clocked 55.21 for sixth in the women’s 400m semi-finals.

ELSWEHERE…
Cillian Kirwan (Raheny Shamrock AC) ran a time of 1:46.89 for ninth in the men’s 800m at Night of Athletics, in Heusden, Belgium on Saturday (July 18), putting him third on the current Irish list behind Mark English and Cian McPhillips. In the women’s 1500m, Eimear Maher (DSD AC) ran 4:07.59 for eighth with Jodie McCann (DCH) eleventh in 4:11.20, while in the 800m, Renee Crotty (UCD AC) clocked a time of 2:07.74.

Also on Saturday, at a meet in Finland, Rory Devaney (Raheny Shamrock AC) threw 70.69 for second in the men’s hammer. At the Lucerne meet in Switzerland, on Thursday (July 16), Rhasidat Adeleke (Tallaght AC) finished fourth in the women’s 200m in 23.07 secs. She subsequently withdrew from the Night of Athletics meet in Heusden. In the men’s 200m, Mark Smyth (Raheny Shamrock) was 11th in 22.30 and was part of the men’s 4 x 100m relay team that clocked 39.25 secs for fourth place. Also on the team were Bori Akinola (UCD AC) and Sean Aigboboh (Tallaght AC). In the women’s long jump, reigning Irish champion Elizabeth Ndudi (DSD AC) was seventh with a best of 6.24m.

BECKER AND RAFTERY WARM UP FOR NATIONALS
Locally, Sophie Becker (Raheny Shamrock AC) and Jack Raftery (Donore Harriers) proved the class of their respective fields in the 400m races at the AI Open Games in Santry on Sunday, which many athletes were using as a warm-up for next weekend’s National Track and Field Championships. In the women’s race, Becker was a clear winner in 52.54, and Raftery was equally dominant in the men’s race, winning in 46.37. Other wins for Dublin athletes came from Iseult O’Donnell (Raheny Shamrock) in the women’s 800m with a time of 2:06.64, Bevan McCaffrey (Raheny Shamrock) in the women’s 100m hurdles in 14.52 secs, and Cara Murphy (DSD) in the 400m hurdles clocking 59.71 secs. Of the men, Bilal Kanimodo (Clonliffe Harriers) proved fastest in the series of 100m race with a time of 10.81. He also finished second in the 200m behind David Doyle (DSD AC) with the pair finishing in 21.44 and 21.81secs respectively. Over 1500m, Elizabeth Gahan (DCH) won the women’s race in 4:26.12 while Louise Woodger (MSB AC) proved best of the men in 3:56.21. Third in that race was master athlete Colm Rooney (Clonliffe Harriers) in 3:57.69. In the field, Anna Gavigan (LSA AC) continued her winning streak in the women’s discus with a best of 54.83, and Eoin Sheridan (Clonliffe Harriers) was an equally emphatic winner of the men’s discus with a 53.95 throw. Making her first appearance at an Irish competition was US-based javelin thrower Kate Joyce, who has declared for Ireland and for DSD AC, and duly won the competition with a 52.75 throw. In 2025, Joyce finished ninth in the NCAA Championships in Eugene with a personal best effort of 56.03. The B standard for the European Championship is 58.20m.

In the National Combined Events Championships, also in Santry over the weekend, DSD AC took four medals. Louise King (DSD) finished second in the women’s competition, while in the age groups, Kevin Leahy and Peadar McGing won the M50 and M70 titles respectively, and Robbie Tallon was third U20.

IRELAND SECOND AT SCHOOLS HOME INTERNATIONAL
Ireland finished second behind England at the annual SIAB Schools International, held in Belfast on Saturday (July18). Among those gaining valuable points for the Irish girls’ team were Adona Zewdie (Mt Anville/DSD AC) winner of the girls’ discus with a personal best 43.06m, Elizabeth Reamsbottom (Santa Sabina Sutton/Clongrifffin AC) who was third in the steeplechase steeplechase, and the winning girls 4 x 100m team. Of the boys, Patrick Pucek (PS Neasain Baldoyle/Clongriffin AC), was second in the boys’ long jump; Daniel Murphy (Gonzaga/Crusaders AC) second and Jack Moylan (Gonzaga/Crusaders AC) fourth in the hammer; Theo Duffy (St Paul’s Raheny/Raheny Shamrock AC) third in the steeplechase while both the e 4 x100m and 4x400m teams finished second.

O’DONNELL WINS IN LUCAN
Former Irish champion Iseult O’Donnell (Raheny Shamrock AC), back racing after a long injury break, clocked 2:06.99 to win the women’s 800m at the seventh Dublin Dublin Graded track meet in Lucan on Wednesday evening (July 15). In the men’s grade A 800m, fastest of the Dublin club athletes in 1:53.19 was Lucas Ryan (Crusaders AC), closely followed by Conor McGuirk (Lusk AC) in 1:53.32. Helena Butterly (Clonliffe Harriers) won the A grade women’s 3000m in 10:02.12, with her Clonliffe club mate Ben Guiden fastest of the men in 8:23.03. Dominating the men’s shot put was Antonio Santana-Otero (Crusaders) AC with a mighty heave of 17.48. Santana-Otero is a former Spanish junior champion with a best of 18.65m. LARK IN THE PARK FOR COLLINS!
Finishing a close second in a time of 50 mins 3 secs at the Irish Runner 10-Mile in Dublin’s Phoenix Park, on Sunday morning was Kane Collins (Donore Harriers). The race incorporated a national championships and had attracted a wide entry from all over the country. Recording a very creditable time of 62:40 was Paralympian Greta Streimikyte (UCD AC), better known for her track exploits. In the senior team competitions, Dundrum South Dublin, led by Jessica Quinn, proved best of the women with Raheny Shamrock AC second, while Donore was third of the men. Dublin winners in the age groups were Ruben Bartelink (DSD AC) M50, Martin Kelly (Rathfarnham WSAF AC) M65, Patrick Browne (Metro St Brigid’s AC) M75; Orna Dignam (DSD AC) W40, Tara Kennedy (Raheny Shamrock AC) W50, Vanessa Sallier (Rathfarnham WSAF AC) W55, and Mary Lynch (Raheny Shamrock AC) W75.

Finally, the winner of the Dublin City Council BHAA 5km, in Irishtown on Wednesday (July 15) was Jacob Collins (Revenue) in 16:47. Paddy Lyons (Media A) was second in 17:18 and Owen Fletcher (IMB) third in 17:24. Orla Dignam was first woman in 18:47, followed by Elaine de Courcy (SDCC) and Amy Moriarty.

TRACK AND FIELD - GAVIGAN RETAINS TITLE
Big event on the domestic track and field scene was the All Ireland U20 and U23 Championships held on Saturday and Sunday in Tullamore. In the U23 Championships, Anna Gavigan (LSA AC) retained her discus title with a throw of 53.92. In a Dublin double, Teddy Gannon (Dublin City Harriers) was best of the men with a 48.30m throw. Zoie Richie (UCD) won the U23 800m in 2:14.19, with her club mate Renee Crotty second in 2:14.61 and Aoife Browne (MSB AC) third in 2:15.85. Crotty also finished third in the 400m in 55.07 https://www.sportsfile.com/id/3501759/. Winning the men’s 800m in 1:53.09 was Andrew McGilton (DSD AC) in 1:53.09. Dara Donoghue (Lucan Harriers) was third in 1:53.72. Darragh Murphy (UCD AC) won a competitive men’s 400m, beating his club mate Joe Doody, with the pair timed at 47.63 and 47.78.

In the men’s 200m, Sean Doggett (Athenry AC) just edged out Robert Hayes (DSD AC) with the pair given times of 21.51 and 21.56. Emmanuel Akinrolie (Titans AC) was third in 21.75. In the women’s race, Debbie Lawal (UCD AC) finished third in 25.08. Crusaders AC won the mens’ 4 x 100m in a championships record time of 42.82. Titans AC was second in 43.09.

Dublin athletes taking silver medals included Sean Owens (Crusaders AC) 100m and 110m hurdles; Ciara Wilson Bowen (DSD AC) the walk and Louie Woodger (MSB AC) 1500m.

Star of the U20 Championships, was sprinter Dubem Amah (Tallaght AC) who won both the 100m and 200m, with a Dublin clean sweep in both races. In the 100m, Joshua Awujoola (MSB AC) and Ciaran O’Farrell (Donore Harriers) were second and third, while in the 200m Adam Offeimun (Donore Harriers)and David Konovalov (Raheny Shamrock AC) followed Amah home. Winning the women’s 100m was Chidinma Adikaibe (Metro St Brigid’s AC) [Pic at https://www.sportsfile.com/id/3501677/ ] while best in the men’s 400m was Alex Leonard (Donore Harriers). A thrilling men’s 400m hurdles saw Des O’Neill (Raheny Shamrock AC) beating the defending champion Ethan Dewhirst (Tir Chonaill AC)in a championships record time of 51.45 secs. Megan Brunt (Blackrock AC) won the 5000m and with a time of 16:57.98 also beat all the U23 women. In the field, Siún Quinn (Brothers Pearse AC) won the high jump with 1.75m, while Adona Zewdie ( DSD AC), aged only sixteen, won the discus comfortably with a personal best 41.92, also competing in the shot.

Silver medal winners included Raheny Shamrock club mates Charlie Gunawardhana and Conrad Latham second in the steeplechase and the 800m respectively In the women’s 1500m, Isabel Cuffe (Lucan Harriers) finished second and Leia Ryan (MSB AC) third.

Bronze medal winners were Ethan Thompson (Clonliffe Harriers) hammer, Freyja O’Carroll (Raheny Shamrock AC) 800m in 2:09.07, Daniel Conway (DSD AC) 110m hurdles and Conn McCluskey (DSD AC) high jump.

Run in conjunction with the championships on Sunday was the National National 10,000m Championships, where David Troy (Metro St Brigid’s AC) took the men’s title in 31:59.25, followed by Patrick Mac Gabhann (Rathfarnham WSAF AC) in 32:19.44. Just five men finished the race.

HEALY BACK ON TRACK
Sarah Healy (UCD AC) ran a solid time of 4:18.49 for seventh in the mile at the Prefontaine Classic Diamond League meet in Eugene, Oregon, where just one second covered places one to eight. A day earlier at the same meet, Rhasidat Adeleke (Tallaght AC) had clocked 52.26 secs for ninth in the 400m.

In Spain, Eimear Maher (DSD AC) ran 4:06.54 for sixth in the 1500m at the Ordizia meet on Saturday (July 4), a time that’s inside the B standard of 4:07 for next month’s European Championships. Jodie McCann (DCH AC) finished just outside the standard in 4:07.47. In the long jump, Elizabeth Ndudi (DSD AC) was second with a 6.61m leap - not far off her national record of 6.68m. Earlier in the week, Anna Gavigan (LSA AC) threw 54.66m for fifth in women’s discus at a meet in Castellon.

At a meet in Lyons, France, Cillian Kirwan (Raheny Shamrock AC) was fifth in the B 800m in 1:47.47, while in Nancy, also in France, Cathal Doyle (Clonliffe Harriers) finished eighth in the 1500m with his time of 3:33.52 just 0.02 off the automatic qualifying mark for the European Championships.

In Stirling, Scotland, at the Pursuit 5000m, on Saturday (July 4) Gavin Curtin (Donore Harriers) finished third in the elite men’s 5000m in 14:12.00 while Faye Dervan (DCH AC) clocked a personal best 15:57.52 for sixth in the women’s race. Finn Woodger (MSB AC) finished fourth in the men’s elite 800m in a PB 1:49.06.

Finally, national champion Bori Akinola (UCD AC) finished second in the men’s 100m final at the Fribourg Meet in Switzerland.

ROADS
Australian ultra runner Nedd Brockmann won the Bear Races Clontarf Half Marathon in a time of 71:22 on Saturday (July 4). In 2022, Brockmann, a 24 year old electrician, ran across Australia from Perth to Sydney in 47 days. In October 2024, he completed a 1,600 km run on the Sydney Olympic track in 12 days 13 hours (and change) for a homeless charity. Ashleigh Hennessy and Marissa Cleary were first women in Clontarf, crossing the line together in 87.29. Over 4,000 completed the race.

Dublin club athletes were out in force at the Bettystown 5km, Co Meath on Friday (July 3) with Aine O’Connor (DSD AC) finishing second woman in 18:16, and over 500 finishing the race. For Balbriggan and District AC, Ramune Zolbiene was third W40 Alessandro Porazzini third M40, and Caroline Kehoe third W55, while Chris Keeling was third M65. From other clubs, Nathan Pearce (Fingallians AC) was first M55, Fiona Fitzsimons (Civil Service AC) first W55, Anne Lyons (Clonliffe Harriers) second W60, Maurice McCrohan (Clonliffe Harriers) third M60 and Tom O’Connor (Liffey Valley AC) second M65.

Also on Friday, Donore junior Rhys Murphy was the winner of the 21st Mick Murphy 5km, in Ferns, Co Wexford in15 mins 42 secs.

HILLS
At the Leinster Evening League race held at Sorrell Hill (9.45km, 392m), Co Wicklow on Wednesday ( July 1) Ruben Bartelink (DSD AC) finished second and first M50 with a time of 50:08 for the 9.45km distance. Peter Forde (Brothers Pearse) was sixth and first M40, Niall Lynch (Donore Harriers) eighth and first M55, Karen Duggan (Clonliffe Harriers) third woman and first W50, Sinead Staunton (Sportsworld AC) second W50 and Anne Lyons (Clonliffe Harriers) first W60.

STAFFORD WINS CLONEE SHOWDOWN WITH ROONEY
After a chase to the line, Jonas Stafford (UCD AC) had the narrowest of victories at the St Coca’s 5km, Kilcock, Co Kildare on Friday evening (June 26). As in the Raheny 5-Mile last January, Stafford and Colm Rooney (Clonliffe Harriers, M40) were elbow to elbow for much of the race with Stafford just just making it to the finish line first in a time of 14 mins 9 secs with Rooney one second adrift. Finishing second of the women was Faye Dervan (DCH AC) in 16:04. Clonliffe Harriers won the men’s team prize ahead of Donore Harriers and Raheny Shamrock, while DCH beat DSD and Sportsworld for the women’s prize. In the age groups, Michael Counsel (Raheny Shamrock AC) was first M60 and Adriele Prina Mello (DSD AC) first M50.

Christopher Downey (Donore Harriers) finished second in 34 mins 14 secs at the Clonee 10km, Co Meath on Thursday evening (June 25). Race winner was Oscar van den Eijnde in 32 mins 57 secs. Dublin-based Swiss athlete Sofia Chetelat (Clonliffe Harriers) was first woman in 38:48. Dee O’Keeffe (Brothers Pearse AC) was second woman and first W50.

Aidan Jones (ESB) was the winner of the Marsh BHAA 5km held in Killinarden Park, Tallaght, on Wednesday (June 24) in a time of 17 mins 26. Jacob Collins (Revenue) was second in 17:39 and Tim Ivers third in 18:14.7. Elaine de Courbet (Sth Dublin CC) was first woman in 21:26. Sonya McConnon (Dept of Ed) was second in 22:11and Sharon Woods (B of Ire) third in 23.01.

RAHENY RUNS CONTINUE
At the fourth round of the Lord Mayor of Raheny 2-Mile Series, which incorporated the Tommy Lynam Mid-Summer Cup on a warm Tuesday evening (June 23), Dara Mac Riocard and Clare O’Leary were the winner. Mac Riocard finished in 10 mins 20 secs, while juvenile athlete O’Leary was eighth overall in 12:32. The series continues until the end of August with all welcome to sign up. TRACK AND FIELD - PẼNA WINS IN STYLE
Juan Ignacio Peña (Raheny Shamrock AC) was the winner of the men’s A grade 1500m at the sixth Dublin Graded Track and Field meet of the season in Santry on Wednesday (June 24) .Peña won the race in 3:52.32 with Lorcan Benjacar (Clonliffe Harriers) second in 3:59.76 and James Gracey (Beechmount Harriers) third in 4:00.23. Winner of the women’s A 1500m was Ava Colreavy (Sligo AC) in 4:24.54. Elizabeth Gahan (Dublin City Harriers) was second in 4:25.27 and Lucie Cawley (Sligo AC) third in 4:31.54. Junior athlete Georgina Bruen Liston (Raheny Shamrock AC) won the B race in 4:52.52; her brother Tiarnan won the men’s C 1500m in 4:19.21. Winning the faster of two grade D men’s 1500m races was junior athlete Caden Crawford (Lucan Harriers) in 4:29.09. Christopher Lynch (Clonliffe Harriers) proved fastest over two Grade A 400m race with a time of 48.49 secs. In the field, national champion Daphni Doulaptsi Teeuwen (Raheny Shamrock AC) proved best in the triple jump with a 12.50m leap A closely-fought men’s hammer saw junior athlete Daniel Murphy (Crusaders AC), using the lighter 5kg hammer, finished second overall with a 54.32 throw. Ethan Thompson (Clonliffe Harriers) , also a junior, threw 53.72 for third place overall. In a boy’s 800m, 17-year-old Conrad Latham (Raheny Shamrock AC) was the winner in a massive personal best time of 1:49.55

TRACK AND FIELD - HEALY BACK ON TRACK
Sarah Healy (UCD AC) finished 11th in a time of 4:01.50 in the women’s 1500m at the Diamond League meet in Paris on Sunday (June 28). It was Healy’s second race of the season and puts her top of the current Irish rankings, although well off her personal best 3:57. Also in France, at the Meeting International Troyes Aube, Jodie McCann (Dublin City Harriers) finished sixth in the women’s 1500m in 4:09.07.

TUTHILL BEATS POLISH ATHLETICS LEGEND
In Poznań, Poland, Nicola Tutihll (UCD AC) won the women’s hammer with a personal best throw of 72.73m. Finishing second behind Tuthill was sporting legend Anita Wlodarczyk, three times Olympic and four times world champion. Wlodarczyk’s world record of 82.98 set in 2016 still stands.

In Belgium, a number of Irish were in action at the Immobel Infinity Meet, in Nivelles, on Saturday (June 28), where Sophie Becker (Raheny Shamrock AC) clocked 24.07 (+2.1) in the women’s 200m. In the triple jump, Becker’s Raheny club mate Daphni Doulaptsi-Teeuwen finished 11th in 12:82.

On Friday (June 26) Cathal Doyle (Clonliffe Harriers) finished a fighting tenth in a highly competition men’s 1500m at the Hanžeković Memorial, in Zagreb, Croatia. Doyle’s time of 3:33.79 was a season’s best and puts him second on the national rankings behind Andrew Coscoran.

In Oslo on Wednesday, Ciaran Carthy (DSD AC) ran 46.91 secs to win the fastest of three men’s 400m heats at the Boysen Memorial Meet. In the women’s 100m, Orla Comerford (Raheny Shamrock) finished ninth fastest overall in 11.80 secs, while in the men’s 100m, Marcus Lawler (Clonliffe Harriers) finished eighth in a wind-assisted time of 10.60. Clocking 1:48.79 for third overall in the 800m was Cillian Kirwan (Raheny Shamrock AC)

Finally, in Copenhagen on Monday (June 22) Eimear Maher (DSD AC) finished a fighting third in a closely-fought women’s 1500m. Her time was 4:10.34.

MASTERS TRACK AND FIELD - THREE TITLES FOR ALLEN
Having a good day out at the Ulster Masters Track and Field Championships in Belfast on Saturday (June 27) was Niall Allen (Clonliffe Harriers) who won the M50 hammer, disc and shot. Other multiple winners included Paul Curtain (Raheny Shamrock, first M55 400m and second 800m; Diarmuid Doyle (Clonliffe Harriers) first M65 400m and second in the 800m and 1500m; Lucy Moore-Fox (Dundrum South Dublin AC) winner W65 hammer and shot, and Peadar McGing (DSD AC) winner M65 80m and 300m hurdles and also the triple jump.

MOUNTAIN RUNNING TEAM GOLD FOR IRISH
A massive team of 112 Irish travelled to the World Masters Mountain Running Championships, Janské Lázné, Czechia over the weekend, with three races taking place over three days.

In the uphill only race, Ian Conroy (Raheny Shamrock AC) finished second M45 and helped the Irish team to gold. Conroy also competed in the classic up and down race two days later finishing fifth and helping the Irish team to silver.
