HYC Juniors Shine at the Ulsters!

What a weekend for our Howth Yacht Club junior sailors at the Optimist Ulster Championships in Strangford Lough. Our young racers showed incredible determination, teamwork, and true HYC spirit.

Proud doesn’t even begin to cover it. Every HYC sailor gave their all, learned loads, and represented the club with class. Massive thanks to the coaches, parents, and the brilliant team at and for hosting such a fantastic event.

Next up the Munsters followed by the Optimist Leinsters in HYC on July 18.

Here’s to more racing, more learning, and more unforgettable moments on the water. Go HYC Juniors!

During the first week of the 2026 Keelboat Club Racing season, Howth Yacht Club’s Race Management team responded to a Pan-Pan call from Dublin Coastguard reporting a swimmer in distress in Malahide Estuary.

With RIB crews already on the water, Evan Banable and Cara Lynch were dispatched to assist. They located the swimmer, safely recovered him into the RIB, provided first aid, and brought him to Malahide Marina for handover to Skerries Coastguard and ambulance personnel.

From North Star, Eoin Kernan coordinated communications with Dublin Coastguard and the RIB crew, while also managing race operations.

Dublin Coastguard later praised the team’s quick response, clear reporting and professionalism.

Howth Yacht Club is very proud of the calm, capable and professional actions of all involved. Well done Cara, Eoin & Evan.
