This Movember, UCD SAC is raising funds for The Samaritans in memory of our friend Declan O’Reilly, who we lost five years ago. Declan was a dedicated instructor, founding member and a huge part of our club. Each year we honour his memory by promoting mental health awareness and participating in the Movember campaign to fundraise for charities that help people who need it most. A big thank you and fair play to our members who have decided to go clean shaven or grown in a moustache this Movember πŸ‘. You can support and donate to our campaign through the link to our fundraising page in our LinkTree. As part of our Movember fundraiser, we are hosting a special challenge of a 60 lap swim, at UCD swimming pool, Friday 21st at 9pm πŸŠβ€β™€οΈπŸŠ. All of our club members are welcome to take part in the swim or come along and cheer ☺️. Every bit of support counts and let’s remind each other that no one swims alone πŸ’™πŸ’›.

Six rescue candidates with six instructors from both UCD and were out training in Dublin Bay last weekend β˜€οΈπŸ›Ÿ A very big thank you to all of the Mons πŸ’™πŸ’› and another shout out to Marlin Sub Aqua Club, whose boat we had out on the day 🌊. Many thanks to for letting us use their inside space for rescue theory and CPR training while the weather had taken a turn 🌧️. Well done to all of our rescue candidates who took part in the training, keep up the great work πŸ’ͺ!!

On my very first pool training with the club in 2021, one of our mons Patsy took a moment to emphasise that if anyone - a new member, an old member - ANYONE in the club was ever having a rough mental health time, the rest of the club was there to listen if we wanted or needed it. He meant it then and the club continues to mean it today.

In Ireland between 350 and 500 people die by su***de each year. It's something that each and every one of us will be affected by at some point in our lives. This year like last year the club planned a Dawn Dive to happen at the same time as Pieta Houses Darkness Into Light. It gave us a chance to remember the people we've laughed, dance to Pink Pony Club, and be together with the people we care about.

Gonna throw a link to the pieta house website into our stories for anyone who wants to donate to help Pieta House keep doing the important work they are doing.

At least 96 sausages eaten, at least 3 bottles of Buckfast finished, incalculable stairs climbed, and too many air tanks hauled, but it was all worth it to qualify 18 shiny new one star divers this past weekend in MalinBeg. We are so thrilled by this year's crop of new divers and can't wait to see what comes next for them. The hugest of thank yous to our mons, our snorkel instructors, our bottle hauliers, our dinner cookers, and all the people who work so hard to make this weekend the success it is. Everyone volunteers their time for the love of diving and we are so grateful to them!

Shout out also to who shared a pier with us all weekend, let one of our trainees dive with one of your mons, and who graciously accepted defeat in the boat race. We can't wait for Easter when we head to Downings, and the return of Dublin Bay Diving in the not too distant future!
