I had a blast coaching at pony camp 2024 this week, the weather gods blessed us with just the right amount of sun and no rain!

I was so impressed by the standard of all the riders and ponies, and my ride of young ladies worked so hard and were well rewarded by all getting over 60% in a very tricky BE90 dressage test, with a high score of 69% for one rider!

I always wear sunglasses when I'm riding, I've taken plenty of teasing for it but its the only way I don't get migraines and over stimulation from bright light (try wearing sunglasses inside well lit barns and trying to convince everyone it's not a hangover 🙄). ✨🐎 FIRST TIME OUT XC IN A DECADE 🐎✨ The @airc_southeast training day at Barnadown was the perfect opportunity for a reintroduction to proper jumping Thanks to the kind owners of the riding school I got to go with Robert, originally I was going to go on another horses but I'm glad I took Bob in the end. He's a little bit tricky but I found him easy over the jumps which really helped my confidence. Now I'm thinking going on a horse I'd never jumped was a bit mad, but it worked out great. I had a quick sit on him on Saturday, then he decked a kid in a lesson and had 3 baths and was a bit confused getting on the box early Sunday morning! He normally wears a Pelham with roundings and leans/blasts through rein aids, so I changed him to a Waterford mouthpiece that had 3 rings and I put the roundings on. This meant he couldn't lean on me and get out of control but it also meant I had to work hard to have quiet hands as it's a fairly sharp set up. I would never use it every day but for XC use what's necessary for safety but not so much that the horse gets stressed out. The roller ball spurs made a huge difference, I did end up carrying a whip later on but didn't use it much.
