Over the past two weeks at Rathdown's summer Art Camp and STEAM Camp, kids got busy making some fantastic art.
During Art Camp, our two art teachers, Helen and Elena guided the various groups aged 7-10 years, through many different aspects of art including painting, drawing, sculpture, printing, fabric painting and design.
Helen posts plenty of creative art ideas for kids on her Instagram
She also created an online exhibition of the art created during both camps.
Elena's projects can be found on her Instagram

In our art module this week, we explored several different aspects of art! 🎨

To see more behind-the-scenes pix and videos from our busy art room, follow our art teacher, Helen on Instagram

First we looked how water affects colour and how 'colour bleeding' can create some amazing effects 🌈

Then we upcycled our used tissue pieces to make springtime trees in full bloom

On Day 3, we flipped to geometric art, using masking tape and paint to explore positive/negative spaces with line, shape and colour

Keep an eye on Helen's Insta for what we'll do on the final day of this week's camp 👀

NO CAMP DURING SUMMER 2020
Thank you for your patience as we came to our decision. We have taken some time to consider all of the safety and logistical aspects of running Camp Rathdown this summer and how this would fit with the planning and logistical aspects of ensuring that we can provide the safest and most robust systems for the return to school in the autumn. As we are first and foremost a school with a campus that caters for children as young as 2 years and 8 months all the way up to 18- and 19-year-olds completing their Leaving Cert, we feel it is necessary to prioritise the autumn return to school for Rathdown’s students over all other concerns. To this end, we have made the decision that Camp Rathdown will not operate for either the Junior School or the Pre-School this summer. This clears the way for us to get on with the multi-faceted task of putting in place a comprehensive plan for the best 2020-2021 academic year as is feasible. We hope that a fully operational Camp Rathdown will be possible in the not too distant future. Thank you to all of our loyal campers for your support at this time. We hope to see you all soon.
