The RPSI is a voluntary organisation running vintage steam and diesel trains from Dublin with carriages restored by its own volunteers. Interested?

Since 1988, our Dublin Area Operations Committee have overseen a regular program of long and short haul steam trips out of Dublin to various provincial locations. A dedicated team of volunteers are involved in a range of tasks from crewing our operations to behind the scenes maintenance and restoration at Inchicore and Mullingar. We're always on the lookout for more volunteers. We'd love to hear from you! Just drop us a message and we'll get back to you as soon as we can.

Operating as usual

Locos are by their nature the focus of any railtour (unless it's operated by a railcar set!). However the carriages are just as important, given that's where the paying customers sit!

Our home for the day was Cravens 1541, carrying the smart blue and crean RPSI livery. On entering notes into my database, I found another link to our honeymoon 30 years ago - we travelled in this carraige behind 169 from Connolly to Malahide on 13/06/1994 on the 1504 Pearse - Mosney.

Kildare, 15/06/2024.

And we're done. 219 stands in platform 6 at Connolly after taking us from Kildare to Rosslare and back. For me, a few memories of our honeymoon almost exactly 30 years ago (and we travelled together today), finally travelling the route from Greystones to Wicklow, and the line into the new Europort station. Last, but by no means least, travelling with friends old and new in a relaxed atmosphere.

As ever, a great day out and ran pretty close to time all day. These things don't just happen. A lot of hard work, both volunteer and paid, from a large number of people behind the scenes beforehand and public facing on the day, is put in for our enjoyment. So thank you to all at Railway Preservation Society of Ireland - Dublin Operations , Iarnród Éireann Irish Rail who worked to run this train. Looking forward to the next one already!

Oh, and I WILL get 079 one day! 🤣🤣🤣
