What if the real opportunity in midlife is to stop focusing on what you can’t fully control and instead invest your energy in what you can?
For years, many of us have been told the answer is simple:
Eat less.
Exercise more.
Watch the scales.
But what if that’s exactly what’s keeping you stuck?
One of my clients recently said something that resonated so strongly with me and I know with many of my other clients who have taken this route from midlife
“I feel a sense of pride again in what my midlife body can do and more control over how my future looks as I age.”
That sentence sums up what I see so often.
The women who make the biggest changes aren’t the ones who become better at calorie counting. They’re the ones who start focusing on what they can build.
More strength.
More muscle.
Better nutrition.
More energy.
Better long-term health.
Time and time again, I see what happens when women make that shift.
They stop measuring success solely by the scales and start measuring it by the things that really matter: feeling stronger, lifting heavier weights, having more energy, improving their health, protecting their future and feeling proud of what their body can do.
That’s a very different way to approach midlife and in my experience, it’s the one that changes not only your body but your relationship with it.
If you’ve been feeling frustrated with the old “eat less, move more” approach, I think you’ll enjoy my latest blog.

Working with a client this morning on perfecting the push up and inspired me to post my tip to help those trying to move to the next level in their push up training.
Push-ups strengthen your chest, shoulders, arms and core while helping preserve muscle, support bone health, improve functional fitness and build the confidence that comes from becoming stronger at every stage of midlife .. I love them!

Why some women finally succeed after years of dieting
Many women believe that if they could just be more disciplined, more motivated or more accountable, they’d finally succeed.
But what if we’ve been looking at lasting behaviour change the wrong way?
Behavioural psychology suggests that one of the strongest predictors of long-term success isn’t willpower.
It’s self-efficacy—the belief that you are capable of succeeding.
That belief isn’t built through guilt, criticism or starting over every Monday.
It grows through small wins, encouragement, confidence and learning to navigate setbacks without giving up.
It’s one of the reasons I don’t believe lasting health comes from being harder on yourself.
I’ve written a new blog exploring the psychology behind lasting behaviour change, why self-efficacy matters so much, and how changing the way you think about yourself can change the way you care for yourself.
If you’ve ever wondered why healthy habits feel so hard to stick to, I think you’ll find this a fascinating read.

The biggest-ever review of strength training has just been published and every woman in midlife should know what it found.
Have you ever wondered if strength training really makes that much difference in midlife?
The science has just given us one of the clearest answers yet.
A landmark 2026 review analysed 137 systematic reviews involving more than 30,000 people—making it the largest review of resistance training ever conducted.
The conclusion?
Strength training doesn’t just build muscle. It supports bone health, improves balance, enhances metabolic health, helps maintain independence as we age and can significantly improve quality of life.
For women navigating perimenopause and menopause, these benefits are more important than ever.
The best part? You don’t need to spend hours in the gym or follow an extreme programme. Consistent strength training, just a couple of times each week, can make a meaningful difference.
I’ve written a new blog explaining what this landmark research found and, more importantly, what it means for women in midlife.
Head to the link in my story for link to read the full article.

Most women know protein is important, but many are surprised to learn that as we age, our muscles become less responsive to its muscle-building effects.
At the same time, muscle loss naturally accelerates during perimenopause and menopause, making it harder to maintain strength, metabolic health and body composition.
This is why protein becomes even more important in midlife. Not only do we need to preserve muscle, but we also need to provide the body with the nutrients it needs to support healthy ageing, energy levels and blood sugar regulation.
In my latest website blog article I explore:
Why muscle loss accelerates in midlife
What anabolic resistance means
How protein supports metabolic health
Practical ways to optimise your protein intake
