At the recent CIF Health & Safety Conference in Croke Park, under this year’s theme “Beyond Compliance”, we heard from Margaret Kirby on what truly distinguishes compliance from a genuine culture of care.
We asked:
“What is the single biggest difference between a company that is simply compliant and one that truly has a culture of care?”
It is the difference between systems that exist on paper, and behaviours that are embedded in practice.
A timely reminder that while compliance defines the baseline, culture defines performance.

That giant, glowing ball in the sky is not a UFO. It’s the Irish sun. And it means business. ☀️🕶️
When the sun actually splits the stones, our instinct is to drop everything and soak it up. But if your "office" is outdoors, all that extra sunshine brings a serious increase in UV risk.
With skin cancer being the most common cancer in Ireland, we need to treat the sun like any other workplace hazard. Before heading out, make sure you and your crew follow the 5 S’s:
- Slip on sun-protective clothing
- Slop on SPF 30+ (and reapply if you're sweating!)
- Slap on a brimmed hat or neck flap on your hard hat
- Seek shade, especially during peak hours (11am - 3pm)
- Slide on UV-protective sunglasses
Employers: Lead by example, stock up the site sunscreen, and keep the team protected! Let's enjoy the weather responsibly!
When milliseconds decide everything ⚡👀
The Ayrton Reflex Challenge brought serious energy to our recent conferences in Croke Park and University College Dublin.
What started as a bit of fun quickly turned into full-on competition 😄
Fast hands, sharp reactions, and plenty of bragging rights on the line.
At Ayrton Group, it reflects what we do every day, staying alert, acting fast, and making the right decisions when it matters most.
We caught it all on camera…
Watch until the end to see who takes the win 🏆

People don’t realise how quickly things can go wrong around live utilities until it’s too late.
At the CIF Conference in Croke Park, we spoke with Claire Mulholland, a Public Safety Manager at ESB Networks, about one of the most critical risks on any construction project; working near live electricity and gas infrastructure.
We asked “What is the one thing contractors consistently get wrong when coordinating with utility providers?”
Claire’s answer was clear and consistent with what we see across the industry: ENGAGE. COMMUNICATE. COLLABORATE.
Her message is a strong reminder that safety doesn’t start on site, it starts long before work begins, through early engagement, shared understanding, and ongoing collaboration between all parties.
Important ESB Networks contacts:
• To report a dangerous occurrence, damaged network equipment, or fallen wires, contact the 24/7 emergency line on 1800 372 999
• If planning work near overhead wires, call 1800 372 757 before works begin

This Mental Health Awareness Week, we want to reinforce something we take very seriously at Ayrton Group; mental health matters in every workplace.
Supporting wellbeing is not just about reacting when someone is struggling; it’s about creating an environment where people feel supported, listened to, and comfortable speaking up.
One practical habit to introduce tomorrow morning:
Before opening emails or taking calls, spend the first 10 minutes of your day planning and prioritising your workload. Write down the 3 most important tasks for the day and focus on one at a time. This simple routine can help reduce stress, improve focus, and avoid becoming overwhelmed before the day even begins.
Over the years, we’ve continued to promote open conversations around workplace wellbeing and mental health. As part of this commitment, we have invited Patricia Murray to speak with us on the important topic of mental health in the workplace, with more conversations and awareness initiatives.
One particularly important discussion explores:
“When You See Something Isn’t Right at Work; What tools can help someone safely come forward?” You can watch the episode below.
We also provide Mental Health Awareness Training to help organisations recognise early warning signs of stress, encourage supportive workplace cultures, and give teams the confidence to support both themselves and their colleagues.
