A nice endurance session scheduled for Saturday morning, 10am. More to come over the next couple of weeks to build up to 90minutes of running. Anyone interested in coming along for some sociable training at an easy pace is very welcome.

Any outdoor enthusiasts looking to take advantage of the beautiful weather, remember it is our equivalent of a heat wave. Keep well hydrated by drinking water every 30mins or more if you are exercising, get the sunscreen on and enjoy !

This video outlines how exercise increases our body's ability to tolerate "physical stress" associated free radicals. Free radical damage as a result of exercise can be extremely deleterious to one's health, particularly in an unaccustomed subject. The take home message for anyone should be this: the fact we as a species only adapt at a gradual rate to the stress of physical exercise it makes no sense for someone to go "all out" at any sport/exercise that he or she has little experience in. This only results in injury, be that in the whole muscle or just at a cellular level. When setting goals for yourself folks do not think more is better, or tougher efforts yields better results.

For anyone interested in improving your quality of life, it's worth noting that if exercise could be prescribed in pill form it would be the most widely bought medicine in the world. There's little that exercise won't do for you, both physically and mentally. Combined with reasonable nutrition and you start feeling the benefits immediately. This is quite important to consider when you begin to realize how prevalent cardiovascular disease, heart attack, stroke, obesity and depression are in Ireland alone. It may be okay to act neglectful with one's health now and again but over a few consistent years you will surprise yourself what can accumulate.
