Blame it on the boogie 😀😟🙏🙃😄
I loved been back in the Canaries but I couldn't miss the first Mully swell of the season. It was a beautiful early season swell and there were an epic crew of surfers on hand to share the waves. When surfing big waves you can often go an hour or more without catching a wave. So it is a good idea to keep moving and catching waves to stay in rhythm with the swell.
I took this wave based on that philosophy. It wasn't the wave I was looking for but it looked makeable and I went just to keep the blood flowing and the wave count up. I was firmly focused on making it to the channel and I had no idea of the chaos going on behind me. Thankfully waterwoman extraordinaire was in the right spot to capture a wonderful image of this wave.
Megan was very kind to share this image with me so I can share it with you.
Stay salty.

A bit of surf history!!

Version 1 (short)
Supporting Maynooth Skate, Board and Bike Park Campaign;
A skatepark is a super idea in addition to the existing playground, however not in it’s place. There’s plenty of room for it elsewhere in The Harbour Field.
The existing slide structure should be saved and integrated into the new playground design.
I’d like to see a bike pumptrack similar to Shannon, without reducing the skatepark size. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ij8KBs6pov0
We definitely need at least 1 if not 2 basketball courts.
Version 2 (long)
Supporting Maynooth Skate, Board and Bike Park Campaign, it’s great to have a skatepark/pumptrack included however we do not want it disrupting the existing playground. Leave the playground where it is, especially the slide structure. It cost a fortune and the kids love it. We don’t want the skatepark getting the blame for it’s removal.
There’s plenty of room for the skatepark, without reducing it’s proposed size, below the bus stop, or over near the shipping containers beside the harbour. The pump track section should even be bigger, similar to the one in Shannon, and would be much better value for money than the large green areas that will go unused for most of the year, as they do at the moment https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ij8KBs6pov0
Secondly, there’s plenty of room for at least 1, if not 2 basketball courts. They’re hugely popular and removing them would be a tragedy.
The inclusion of gym equipment is a great idea. Maybe it could be positioned to provide passive supervision for the skatepark?
Anyone spending time in the area knows that the green areas are rarely used so there’s plenty of room for all the new amenities, keeping the best of the old and adding new ones, creating a vibrant area for all ages and abilities in our beautiful town.
Here’s hoping we can encourage a more resourceful and renewable design, recycled and reimagined for the enjoyment of our community, young and old.

New Irish surf film about the early days of surfing set against the backdrop of the Troubles. Kevin Cavey, Roger Steadman, Bo Vance feature as you'd expect. Kev Smith doing the cinematography. It's being premiered at the Belfast Film Festival. Looks great. Some Irish surfing gold over on their FB page. Trailer below.
