What a weekend out west in Killary Fjord.

Ten new PADI Open Water students took to the Atlantic to complete their training dives, putting everything they had learned in the classroom and pool into practice in the clear waters of Connemara.

Meanwhile, three more divers pushed their training further and became PADI Deep Divers, developing the skills, confidence and experience needed to safely explore some of Ireland’s deeper dive sites.

The conditions were good, the scenery was spectacular and the atmosphere among the group was even better. There was plenty of diving, great food, lots of laughs and all the fun that comes with an Oceandivers weekend away.

These weekends are about much more than earning a diving qualification. They bring together students, qualified divers, instructors and crew, creating new friendships and introducing more people to the incredible diving available right here on Ireland’s west coast.

A massive congratulations to our ten new Open Water students and our three new Deep Divers. Thank you as always to the Oceandivers instructors, Divemasters and support crew who gave their time and worked throughout the weekend to keep everyone safe, comfortable and progressing.

Another busy Tuesday night in the NAC.

PADI Staff Instructor Richard Ivers led the charge as our latest Rescue Diver course kicked off.

Meanwhile, Search and Recovery Specialty Instructor Diarmaid put our trainee Divemasters through their paces, practising search patterns and working with lift bags.

Assistant Instructor Steven led our newest divers through their first underwater experience with the PADI Discover Scuba Diving programme.

From first breaths underwater to professional-level training, it was all happening in the pool tonight.

Tuesday night at the NAC and the OceanDivers team are leading the charge.

Trainee Divemasters Egan, Paul and Kate are working towards their PADI Pro-level certifications, while Dermot leads our new Open Water class and Jen and Ronan wrap up night five with the current group as they prepare for open water.

Dave and Egan are running Scuba Tune-Ups for qualified divers getting ready for warm-water holidays and tapping into the worldwide PADI network for their next diving adventures, while Sara is introducing our Discover Scuba students to that unforgettable first breath underwater.

A full pathway happening in one pool at the same time — first breath, Open Water training, returning divers and the next generation of PADI professionals.

And finally… whoop whoop — the 5-metre pool is back after its fresh coat of paint. Great to have the deep end back in action.

Tuesday nights at the NAC — there’s always something happening underwater!

Another busy night for the Oceandivers team at the National Aquatic Centre, with divers at every stage of their journey in the water.

Our new PADI Open Water class got underway, learning their first scuba skills before progressing towards their open-water dives.

We also had Discover Scuba Diving sessions for complete beginners who simply wanted to jump in, try scuba and experience breathing underwater for the first time.

Meanwhile, our previous class were back in the pool preparing for their Open Water dives in Killary, while some of our qualified divers returned for a Scuba Tune-Up — refreshing skills, rebuilding confidence and getting ready to head back into open water.

First ever dive, learning to become a diver, or getting back into it after some time away — Tuesday nights at the NAC cover the lot.

Another fantastic evening with our PADI students and instructional team as training continued in the pool.

For the next two weeks, the deep pool will be unavailable while essential maintenance works are carried out. The good news? Training continues as normal, with the entire Oceandivers team making full use of the 2.4-metre pool to keep everyone progressing through their courses.

It was also great to welcome Dan and Paul back from their holidays, ready to get back in the water and help the next generation of divers develop their skills.

A special mention goes to one of our mother-and-daughter teams, who were putting their new drysuits through their paces as they continue working. It’s always brilliant to see families sharing the adventure of learning to dive together.

With crystal-clear visibility, our Advanced Open Water students completed their Underwater Navigation and Dry Suit Adventure Dives, building the confidence and skills needed to dive safely in Irish waters all year round.

Congratulations to our 16 newly qualified PADI Open Water Divers who have now officially earned their certifications in the spectacular surroundings of Killary Fjord.

A special congratulations goes to Melanie, who becomes Ireland’s youngest certified scuba diver of 2026. It is fantastic to see young people discovering the underwater world, and even more special when they can complete their final qualifying dive alongside their parents. Moments like these are what scuba diving is all about—creating memories that families can share for a lifetime.

From sunshine on the fjord to breathtaking sunsets over Connemara, this weekend showcased exactly why the west of Ireland is one of Europe’s great diving destinations. None of it would have been possible without the support of our instructors, divemasters and everyone who helped make the weekend such a success.

To all of our new divers: welcome to the Oceandivers family. This is just the beginning of your adventure. The ocean is waiting.

A brilliant first day in the stunning surroundings of Killary Fjord as our newest Open Water divers took their next steps into the underwater world.

One of the highlights of the weekend has been seeing so many families diving together. Scuba diving is one of the few sports that can truly be shared across the generations, with parents, children and friends all learning, exploring and creating memories together.

With skills developing, confidence growing and plenty more dives still to come tomorrow, it’s shaping up to be another fantastic weekend on Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way.
