What a wonderful celebration we had for Tom Daly’s retirement on Sunday night! The bar was packed, and it was fantastic to see so many members, friends and staff come along to congratulate Tom on almost 30 years of service to the club. Club President David Crowley officiated on the night with members and staff speaking warmly about Tom’s commitment, dedication and the huge contribution he has made to the club over the years.

Tom spoke fondly about his many years at the club, describing it as his “home away from home”. He entertained everyone with stories from his time here, delivered with his usual wit and sense of humour. Padraic Di Fusco and his band kept everyone entertained with some great music, and Tom even took to the microphone himself to sing a few tunes!

Tom has just two weeks remaining before he officially retires, so we encourage everyone to come along, enjoy a meal at the club and take the opportunity to wish Tom all the very best for his retirement.

This Sunday, October 4th, is the day we celebrate one of the great characters of Dungarvan Golf Club.

To honour Tom’s exceptional contribution to the club over many years, a special Tom Daly Retirement Scramble and party will take place. After 25 years working at the club, Tom officially retires in a few weeks.

The timesheet is full, a testament to Tom's popularity. If you can’t play but would like to contribute to the celebrations, please call into the office.

A special retirement party and presentation to Tom will take place at 7.30pm this Sunday 4th and we hope all members and former members can attend. It promises to be an evening filled with nostalgia, funny stories, great memories- and no doubt, the odd tall tale about Tom!

We have the brilliant Padraic Di Fusco and his band to entertain us on the night!

So come along, raise a glass, share a few stories and help us celebrate a true Dungarvan Golf Club stalwart.

Our Club Matchplays reached an exciting conclusion this week as our finalists took to the course on Sunday morning. First up was a battle of the left handers as Alan O’Donnell faced Rory McKeown in the Scratch Matchplay Singles. In a quality match, Rory managed to get the upper hand after 9 holes and succeeded in hanging on despite a spirited back 9 from Alan to record a 3 and 2 victory. Thanks to our anonymous member for sponsoring the event.

Next up was our Singles Matchplay kindly sponsored once again by Mr. Martin Lynch. Again, this was a high-quality affair between Brian Morrissey and Tony Hamilton. All square playing the last hole, Brian managed a superb birdie to sn**ch victory by the slimmest of margins.

The Scotch Foursomes final was another close affair between John Hassett and John Clancy facing Martin and Matthew Lynch. Victory finally went to the two John’s by a 1 up margin with par on the final hole.

Unfortunately, our Mixed Foursomes final was awarded to Martin Walsh and Zoe Scanlan as Declan Walsh and Linda Creamer were unable to fulfil the fixture.

Thanks to Martin Landers for successfully running our Matchplay events and to all the competitors for taking part. Thanks also to our sponsors for making the events possible.
