🌧️ A VERY WET WEEKEND OF RACING! 🏊‍♂️🚴‍♂️🏃‍♂️

If you weren’t standing in a field getting soaked at Electric Picnic last weekend, you could always have chosen to get soaked while racing around Kerry or Waterford instead. 😅

And that’s exactly what some of our Tried & Tested crew did…

🔥 HARDMAN FULL DISTANCE – KILLARNEY

A casual 3.8km swim, 180km around the very hilly Ring of Kerry and a full marathon in Killarney National Park. 😳

Ronan Wall took it all on in 10:17, finishing an incredible 6th overall! 👏

His lasting memory?
That hill. 😂

🐑 THE LOST SHEEP – KENMARE

James Fitzgerald & Tomás Mahony tackled one of Ireland’s toughest middle-distance triathlons — 1.9km swim, 83km bike with 1,300m+ of climbing over the Healy & Caha passes, followed by a very hilly half marathon.

James crossed the line 4th in his age group 💪

Meanwhile Johnny Lynch, Martin Lavan, Barry Morrissey & Andrée Heslin braved another damp start in Kilmacthomas.

August has been a busy one for Tried & Tested! 💙💛

Last weekend alone saw T&T members racing, swimming and cycling all over the country — plus a fantastic €1,000 raised for the RNLI at our Friday night Aquathlon & BBQ. A huge thank you to everyone who swam, ran, BBQ’d, donated and supported the evening! ❤️🌊

Saturday was a particularly big day for Niall Connaughton, who started with the Frank Duffy 10 Mile in Phoenix Park before heading to the Leinster Open Sea Docklands Challenge Swim just hours later — finishing an incredible 4th overall and 1st in the wetsuit category! 👏

Further afield, Tasha Lanigan, Lesley Caldwell, Oliver Kelly, Carolin Foley, Mary Power and Elaine Mullan enjoyed fantastic conditions at the Garnish Island Swim, while Sheilanne O’Donoghue took on Tri the Hook sprint triathlon in Wexford. 🏊‍♀️🚴‍♀️🏃‍♀️

On Sunday, four T&T triathletes headed to Whitegate for the Hills of the Harbour Sprint Triathlon in perfect racing conditions.

Meanwhile, back home the Sunday spins clocked up an impressive 117km for the long group and almost 80km for the shorter spin! 🚴‍♂️

A brilliant weekend of racing, training, fundraising and plenty of T&T representation around the country. 💙💛

Come along for a fun summer evening of swimming, running and good company as we get together for our annual RNLI Fundraiser Aquathlon & BBQ.

This isn’t about racing—it’s about getting out, training together and supporting a fantastic cause. Whether you’re building confidence in open water, getting some swim-run practice in, or just fancy a sociable training session with friends, we’d love to see you there.

Dozens of triathletes and swimmers kicked off the bank holiday weekend with a fundraising aquathlon, swim and barbeque at Clonea Strand in aid of Autism Assistance Dogs Ireland (AADI).
Tried and Tested members, as well as members from neighbouring triathlon clubs, were out in force last Friday evening to support Dungarvan Sea Swimmers’ campaign to raise funds for AADI. The organisation does amazing work to train assistance dogs and helps transform the lives of autistic children and their families.

Youth National Championships, Loughrea Co Galway
Predator Triathlon Club in Loughrea hosted the Youth National Championships on Sunday 2 August, with Tried & Tested’s William McNally racing in the competitive 15-17 age group - giving him plenty of work to do to keep in the mix with Youth Series and Championship points up for grabs. There has been some great racing here over the years and ideal lake swim conditions on Sunday morning meant that everyone got off to a fast start.
William came out in 13th place overall from the swim but a good transition and cycle put him up into 7th place, with William recording the second fastest bike time on the rolling course.
A very fast run from all competitors on a perfect flat out and back run of 2500 metres saw the best of the island’s youths excel and finish strongly. The atmosphere was excellent as usual in Loughrea and thanks to all in Predator Tri Club for a great event. Tried & Tested have been making the journey to Loughrea since the junior club has been in existence and the friendships built over the years are there to see as all families and athletes delight in each others’ successes. Final results: William second in the 15/16 age group and 5th overall - a very strong performance!
WIthin minutes of the Youth Series racing finishing up, competitors for the National Series sprint race began filing into transition beside the lake to rack their bikes and prepare for the 750m swim, 20km bike and 5km run. The drizzle was falling but the temperatures were pleasant, the lake was flat and calm and there was no wind worth mentioning - ideal conditions for a fast race. The sprint course took in 1 x 750m loop in the lake, followed by 2 x 10km laps of the rolling bike course and a fast and flat 5km run beside the lake.
Congratulations to Tried & Tested’s Aoibheann Ryan - who put in a fantastic performance to claim 5th female and 1st AG - and Andree Heslin.

🏃 Meanwhile, members also tackled the challenging Rás na Rinne 6-mile race in Ring. Well done to Conor Hennebry, James Fitzgerald, Brigid Coffey, Billy Ryan and Oliver Kelly.

🌍 In London, Richie Halpin completed the prestigious T100 Triathlon, conquering a 2km swim, 80km bike and 18km run.

A fantastic weekend of racing across Ireland and the UK. Congratulations to everyone who represented Tried & Tested with such brilliant performances! 💪👏
