🏃‍♀️ BRING BACK THE 3KM RUN!

I saw a post on Instagram over the weekend "Bring Back the 3km run" and i thought, what a brilliant idea💡.
Yes why the hell not ....

When did we start thinking we had to run 5K, 10K or more for it to count?
What about just going out for a little 3K?

Not to lose weight.
Not to burn calories.
Not to chase a personal best.
But to clear your head, release some stress, improve your fitness and maybe even have a laugh and a chat with a friend along the way.

Maybe you're a busy parent, working shifts, haven't run in years or simply don't have the time or energy for longer distances.
Who says you have to?

And if you can't run the full 3K, walk a bit, jog a bit. Build yourself up.
No pressure. No competition. No expectations.
You don't have to run far to feel the benefits of running.
And you certainly don't have to run 5K to call yourself a runner!
Start where you are, with what you have.

SAME WOMAN. DIFFERENT CHAPTERS. ❤️

At my heaviest during menopause I was 76.9kg — just over 12 stone.
I actually weighed more than I did at 9 months pregnant.
And something I think is important to say...
I never stopped training.
I wasn't sitting on the couch doing nothing. I was still exercising. But my body had changed, my weight had crept up and what had worked for me for years simply wasn't working the same way anymore.
I didn't wake up one morning looking like I do today.
There was no magic supplement. No detox. No quick fix.
I changed how I ate — but I ate real, everyday food.
Bread. Potatoes. Eggs. Yoghurt. Chicken. Salmon. Fruit. Vegetables. And yes, the occasional scone with a mug of tea. 😂☕️
I stopped drinking alcohol.
I got back to running.
I continued strength training.
I moved more.
But probably the biggest thing?
I stayed consistent.
Not perfect. Consistent.
Six years later, nearly 56, I sometimes stand in front of the mirror and genuinely can't believe how far I've come.
Not because I think I have the perfect body.
But because I know where I started, and I know what it took to get here.
I'm stronger. I'm leaner. And I genuinely feel I'm bringing my best version yet.
Midlife didn't mean giving up on myself. And it certainly didn't mean I had to accept that there was nothing I could do.
Start where you are, with what you have.
Nothing fancy. Nothing extreme.
Just start. And keep going. ❤️

We can't change the past, but we CAN change our future. ❤️
I spoke today on Andrea Gilligan's Lunchtime Live about my own experience with sunbeds.
And one thing I didn't really get enough time to say was this...
I can't go back and tell my younger self what I know now. None of us can.
But we CAN do better going forward.
We can create more awareness for our young people about the risks of sunbeds.
We can talk about the influence social media and image have on young people and remind them that a tan isn't worth risking their skin for.
And for those of us who used sunbeds years ago — we can't change our past.
What we CAN do is look after our skin, protect it, check it and get anything we're concerned about looked at.
Since I first spoke publicly about my own experience last year, so many people have contacted me saying the same thing:
"I wish I could go back."
Unfortunately we can't.
But maybe by speaking about it now, we can help somebody else make a different choice.
That's what matters to me.

SUPPLEMENTS — because apparently we're all supposed to have a cupboard full of them these days 😂
I do use supplements, but I don't feel the need to take everything every single day.
I tend to use electrolytes on my running days, particularly after a longer or sweatier run.
Gut Balance I tend to use this on days when I'm feeling a little more bloated or my digestion feels a bit off. But it's not a substitute for the basics — drinking enough water, eating a varied diet with plenty of fibre, fruit and vegetables, and actually moving your body all matter too.

And then there's creatine...
I tried it for quite a while, mainly because it's promoted absolutely EVERYWHERE. 😂 I experimented with different amounts — 3g, 5g and even 10g.
Personally? I never felt this amazing difference everyone talks about. If anything, I simply felt and looked more bloated.
So I stopped taking it a long time ago.
Has my strength decreased? No. Has my training suffered? No. Am I saying creatine doesn't work or that you shouldn't try it? Absolutely not.
There's good evidence behind creatine, and plenty of people find it beneficial. I just didn't feel the benefits were worth it for me.
And that's really my point.
You don't have to take something just because everyone on social media tells you that you should.
Try things. See how YOU feel. Keep what works for you and leave what doesn't.
Food. Hydration. Movement. Sleep. Consistent training.
I'll keep those as my foundations.
Everything else is an extra.

Here’s to the next 6 weeks ❤️

Sometimes I forget how far I've actually come.
Menopause changed my body. I gained weight, I held a lot of fluid, and for a while I didn't really recognise the person looking back at me.
There wasn't one magic thing that changed it.
I stopped drinking.
I got my runners back on.
I started looking after my food better. I kept strength training.
And little by little, I found me again.
Not the younger version of me.
This version 💛.

I'll be 56 in November and I'm still setting myself goals. For the next 6 weeks I'd like to build a little more definition through my shoulders and abs, keep working on my glutes and — most importantly — keep my running because that's as much for my head as it is for my body. 🏃‍♀️
I'm not cutting everything out. I'm not starving myself. And I'm certainly not giving up potatoes, tea or the occasional scone. 😂
I'll just keep doing what I've been doing — with a little more focus — and see where it takes me.

I don't know exactly what I'll look like in 6 weeks.
But actually… look how bloody far I've already come. ❤️

Did someone say menopause?
Menopause Who 🤭.
I said bi*ch , Try Me !!! 🤣

I’ve never had a six pack. 😂
So… this is a work in progress.

Will I ever have one? Who knows. 🤣
Because I’m not prepared to make my whole life about getting one.
I’m still eating proper meals.
I’m still having my treats — of course. 😂
I’m still running, because my head needs it. 🏃‍♀️
I’m still strength training because I love feeling strong.
I’ll train the abs, I’ll see what happens… but I’m not giving up my food, my running or my sanity for them 🤭😂😋.

Progress, Not Punishment.
Let’s see where this goes. 💪❤️
