GFA U17 Championship: Tuam Celtic 4- 5 Renmore. GS : Finn O'Reilly (2), Naoise Gorham, Liam Kelly, Liam O'Donnell
Renmore arrived to a sun-drenched Celtic Park on Sunday afternoon to face off against Tuam Celtic in the GFA U17 Championship Cup. The only thing better than the weather was the feast of Cup football entertainment served up by both teams, who attacked at every opportunity, and shared 9 goals between them. Naoise Gorham opened the scoring for Renmore after 30 minutes, before Tuam levelled almost immediately with a thunderbolt from distance. Despite chances on both sides, it seemed that the teams would be level at halftime before Liam Kelly reacted first to a mixup in the Tuam defense and restored the lead for Renmore. Tuam turned the game on its head in the first 20 minutes of the second half, with 3 unanswered goals. Renmore had been creating as many if not more chances in that period, but found the Tuam keeper in inspired form, and faced a 2 goal deficit with time running out. A moment of magic from Finn O'Reilly gave Renmore hope as he turned and fired from the edge of the box , giving the keeper no chance.
2 minutes later, Finn was in the right place at the right time to slot past the keeper and put the sides level. With extra-time looming, Padraig O'Flaithearta played a cross-field ball to Liam O'Donnell who was the coolest man in a sweltering Celtic Park as he turned one way and then the other before passing the ball beyond the keeper into the Tuam net, putting Renmore into the next round. This was a fantastic Cup game, enjoyed by all in attendance, and Tuam certainly played their part, with some great football and fabulous goals. Many thanks to Niall Crosby for officiating in this one.
