Welcome to Galway Karate Institute
Member of the Shotokan Institute of Ireland Traditional Karatedo
Classes start from 8pm – 9.30 pm every Thursday night in Creaven House, number 8, Claddagh Quay.
Classes are run by:
Sensei: Seán O’Riain (5th Dan) and John Murray (2nd Dan) Black Belts.
We are open for new adult (16+) members – beginners or experienced Martial Artists

The focus of the club is on developing skills in self-defence in real situations, through the development of flexibility, strength and conditioning and Karate technique.
A large component of each class is devoted to sparring at realistic distances in order to improve skills and reaction time
A typical class will consist of :
Warmup – stretching
Karate techniques (kicks, punches, blocks etc.)
Sparring
Kata ( forms used to aid the student to practice techniques full speed and power)
Stretching and conditioning of core muscle groups
The class sizes are kept intentionally small in order to give students individual attention
