Introduction:

The Ayling’s Royal Challenge Cup (or Ayling’s Challenge Cup, it’s original name pre-dating royal patronage) is an annual sprint race taking place on the River Corrib on the last weekend of July. Each round consists of match racing between randomly selected crews in touring quads, over a distance of 400m. The entrance fee of €10 for each rower is to be collected on the day, with all

profits from the event going to a charity of the organising committee’s choice.

History:

The regatta was first staged in 2015 and proved successful. However, due to acute onset alcoholism the following year in the organising committee, the 2016 meet was abandoned. At the regatta’s inception, it was intended for professional pintmen rather than those who gatted at an amateur level. At this inaugural race, competitors raced in primitive rowing boats known now as ‘coxless pairs’. The regatta is regarded as part of the Irish social season [1]. As with other events in the season, the regatta has strict dress codes.

FAQ's:

Q: Hi guys, is it okay to attend the races as a spectator and not pay the entrance fee? A: We don't speak broke. (Donation buckets will be at the course and any spare change is greatly appreciated). Q: Haha ori, what happens if I decide to be no craic on the day and don't adhere to the strict dress codes? A: Your skull is getting pinged with pineapple juice bai. Q: Okay, what are the dress codes? A: Men are to wear a blazer (club colours if possible) and slacks. Hawaiian/sh*t shirts are encouraged but not mandatory. Because we've never talked to women before, we aren't sure what women's formal wear is, but we suggest wearing a funny hat. Q: What's the story with redrawing after each round? A: All the winners from the first round will be put into a massive, massive hat and redrawn at random, with the first five being one crew, and so on. Q: Will there be food? Q: Will people be going out afterwards? A: There will be an award ceremony later in the evening followed by an 'extensive social timetable'. Q: I'm obviously going to wear Henley Attire because I'm not a pussy, but where do I get changed for my race? A: Yes, changing facilities will be provided.

Hear me and rejoice! You have had the privilege of being saved by the ARCC. You may think this is a fable. No.. it is salvation. The universal scales tip towards balance because of your raunchy touring quad action. Smile for even in life as an alcoholic you've become children of the ARCC.

We the High Council of the ARCC have managed to secure accomodation discounts for guests who stay in Campus Living (Corrib Village/Goldcrest- NUIG student accom)

There'll be a 40-50% discount depending on numbers. To avail of the discount DM us and/or our Instagram page or and we'll put you through the Campus Living contact. The earlier you respond the higher the likelihood of discount as the ARCC will be on during a busy week- Galway Races! Campus living have limited accomodation available during that weekend!

This event is run to raise funds for the Bone Marrow Leukaemia Trust, who use the money to care for those affected by this condition as well as investing into researching the disease. We hope that with your support we can continue to help BMLT with their hugely important work!

Greetings touring quad enthusiasts! The pinnacle of the rowing season is nearly upon us (ARCC not Champs). Our fundraising page is now up and running. Just like last year, all proceeds rasied for the event will be going straight to the Bone Marrow for Leukaemia Trust (BMLT) to help support the phenomenal work they do. Last year thanks to the great support we received, we managed to raise over €1000 for the BMLT. We hope this year will be even better than last year and we can raise even more money for such a worthwhile cause.

Less than a month to go to start getting a crew together and peaking for 400m of top end touring quad racing!!
