We are giving away a space for our next term of Forest School Sessions for 11-15 year old starting next Tuesday the 1st September.

Our new 5 week term is starting on Tuesday 1st September for older children aged 11-15 years. Forest School offers the perfect space for older children to take a break from screens and busy schedules and be fully immersed in nature. They will have opportunities to learn new skills and develop existing ones further. We look to the group for where there interests lie but activities include bushcraft, fire lighting, foraging, cooking, folklore and stories, games, nature art, knots and much more. The space offers invaluable time to grow as a person and within a group.

A wood cookie can become so many different things. We usually make pendants with them but today it was birds. I had a little ‘how to’ sheet for them but what I love is that their creativity took over with some children making stands for their birds. It was the first group to make these birds and it won’t be the last. #

A snapshot of what our olders groups got up to yesterday. I love that amongst whittling and water filtration they also work as a team on the slack line, enjoy group games and are never too old for the digging hole!

A little snapshot at what we've been up to the last two weeks. Always an interest in lighting fire with flint and steel and a lot of children are leaning towards whittling and tool work but let's not forget the art side of things. We were weaving Mexican God's Eyes/nature eyes and making natural paints.... which were mostly used to paint the shed!

The past two weeks were all about tools. We focused on using the saw, secateurs, palm drills and tent pegs. With each new tool a child is introduced to comes developing new skills and new pockets of knowledge. These arent just using the tools themselves but also building on patience and perseverance along with seeing what woods we can use for various activities. We used elder for our beads and hazel for our wood cookies.
