Unfortunately, we have had to take the difficult decision to cancel The Coalface Adventure Race 2020. With the continued closure of Castlecomer Discovery Park due to Covid19 restrictions, our community event does not have enough funding to finance the race this year. We hope all you Adventure Racers keep safe and are coping okay with the back yard training...when we get back on the beautiful hills we will appreciate them all the more! Please support your local events when the time comes. Ger & Dee

🏃💪💥 Strength training for distance runners.
Distance runners up first....have you ever seen a distance runner cross the finish line completely out of breath? I haven't. But what I have seen is recreational runners shuffling over the line with mechanics that don't appear quite as pretty as when they set out like gazelles. How strong you finish a race is not merely down to how many miles you've logged in training. How are those smashed muscles holding up? What is your body composition like under fatigue? Do you crumble at the line with aches and pains, rather than struggle to catch your breath because you've pushed to the max? Have you really been able to push to the max in that last mile or has the strength not been there?
Is this you? Then strength training should be on your agenda.
Preparing for long distance races takes more than just miles in the legs if you want to successfully hit those goals you have dancing around your mind. You need strength, postural stamina, and muscle endurance. You need this to control your race, reduce your risk of injury, and finish strong on race day.
These can all be addressed with the correct strength programme alongside your running training. If this is you, drop us a message here or on 0834051678 to book a free chat where we can figure out the best option for you.
Coach Matt likes to use his strength work to test himself in other areas, outside his comfort zone. Seen here chatting to and Ger Griffin of The Coalface Adventure Race. , having just crossed the line running strong 🏃💪
