A massive congratulations to Emma Costello and Katie Brosnan who were part of the Kerry ladies squad who had a dominant 2-16 0-4 win over Tipperary in the first round of the All Ireland Series.

Emma started at centre back and bagged herslef a first half point, while Katie Brosnan was on the bench.

Congrats to all involved, their next game is away to Kildare on Saturday at 3PM in Newbridge, the curtain raiser to the mens game at 5.30.

Late Horgan two pointer keeps Firies’s promotion charge afloat

From the throw in the visitors took control of the early stages as former Kerry senior panellist Cathal O Beaglaioch split the posts from beyond the arc for a two pointer, shortly after Dara O Beaglaioch was on hand after to open an early three-point lead, Firies then opened their account as James O Donoghue fed James Horgan for a score, shortly after the sides were level as Horgan won and converted a two point free, two points from the away side pushed them back in front, a well-timed Niall Donohue kick pass found Mike Daly who pointed from an acute angle for a 0-5 0-4 scoreline on 15 minutes advantage for An Ghaeltacht.
The 2025 all Ireland intermediate champions were on hand to double their lead as Gavin Ó Cinnéide pointed, James Horgan and Diarmuid O Mahoney then pointed to level matters before a late first half score from Dara O Beaglaioch pushed them a point infont at the interval.

The visitors started the second half like they started the first as Dara Ó Beaglaoich pointed, with another point to follow for a three point lead on 35 minutes, a minute later Firies then landed a killer blow when Pat Daly was fouled going up trying to gain possession from a kickout and with Diarmuid Brosnan popping a kickpass into James Horgan, Horgan spun past Pádraig O Sé and rolled the ball past Sean Ó Luing and into the back of the net 1-6 0-9.
Six minutes later the away side reinstated their lead as points from Pádraig O Sé and Cian Mac Gearailt (free) opened a two point lead on 48 minutes, James Horgan pointed to half the deficit before former All Ireland winner with Cork Aidan Walsh was fouled which seen Cian Mac Gearailt point on 53 minutes, but Firies then hit the last three points of the game as a move including Marcus Clifford and Diarmuid O Mahoney helped find James Horgan who was fouled and converted the resultant free.
Then with the clock winding down and with the away side retaining possession across the 45 on 63 minutes, Firies were able to turn the ball over for travelling and with An Ghaeltacht not handing the ball back seen descent given and ball advanced 50m which gave James Horgan the chance to win it, Horgan on the 45 yard line from a few yards outside the posts sent a shot high into the sky and between the posts, a sensational kick which sent the Firies faithful into frenzy with the final whistle blown straight after.

Firies GAA Club is delighted to announce the return of its annual Golf Classic, which will take place on Saturday, 18th July 2026 at Maine Valley Members Golf Club.
The 2026 Golf Classic will again be dedicated to the memory of the late Donie McCarthy, one of the most influential figures in the history of Firies GAA.
Teams of four can enter for €200 per team, while local businesses and individuals can support the event through tee-box sponsorship for €50. Raffle tickets will also be on sale on the week of the golf classic with top prizes on offer.

Our U10 boys crossed the Gweestin river on Wednesday evening to play their third go games fixture.
Playing three games, the boys showed great energy and teamwork on a blustery evening. Thanks to all who travelled, and to Listry for three sporting games.

During the week, our U12 Ladies played Southern Gaels on a cold and breezy evening in Farranfore. Despite the challenging conditions, the girls put in a fantastic performance from start to finish. They showed great commitment, determination, and skill throughout the game, battling hard right to the final whistle. Well done to all the girls on a tremendous effort – keep up the great work!

Best of luck to Podge O Sullivan and Daniel Cronin who are part of the Kerry minor panel who take on Kildare tomorrow in the Electric Ireland All Ireland Quarter final.

Well done to our U14 ladies on all their effort in their football game on Tuesday evening in Fossa. While the result didn't go their way, the girls showed great determination and teamwork throughout the match. Their hardwork and positive attitude were evident from start to finish.
