Ringfinnan Garden of Remembrance

Today we were deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Rob Jacob from Scilly, Kinsale on yesterday 25th September.

Over the last number of months, Rob designed and project managed the installation of a sculpture in the garden that contains steel recovered from the World Trade Centre. This steel was donated by the FDNY Carolina Retirees Association. The sculpture was unveiled during a remembrance ceremony in the garden on 11th September last. Rob was a true gentleman and we thank him for the time he gave to help with this beautiful piece in the garden. RIP.

Today we remember all those that lost their lives and those that were impacted by the September 11 th attacks 24 years ago. In the garden we particularly remember the 343 members of the FDNY that passed over on that day. RIP.

There will be a ceremony in the garden this Thursday September 11th, at 5:30 pm to remember the 343 firefighters and all those who lost their lives 24 years ago. This year, there will also be an official unveiling of a sculpture that contains steel from the World Trade Centre Twin Towers.

Last Friday we had a lovely ceremony in the garden to receive steel recovered from ground zero. A big thank you to retired FDNY firefighters Gerry Amitrano, Jimmy Walsh and Billy Owens who escorted the steel from the US to Kinsale, and then from Kinsale to the garden with the Kinsale Fire & Rescue. Thank you also to Joe Hanney who liased with the retired firefighters over the last two and a half years on this project.

Minister for Finance, Jack Chambers was in attendance and laid a wreath as part of this ceremony. A base and mount will be constructed over the next number of months for the steel, with an official unveiling planned in Spring 2025.

On this Friday 18th October, at 11:30am, there will be a ceremony in the garden. This is to mark the arrival of a piece of steel, recovered from ground zero, into the garden. All are welcome to attend.

The steel is approximately 15 inches squared. A base and mount will be comissioned over the next number of months and there will be an official unveiling in spring 2025.

Thank you to the retired FDNY firefighters and others who have been working on bringing this symbolic piece of steel to the garden for the last number of years.

Today we remember the 343 FDNY firefighters and all those who's lives were lost on this day 23 years ago. We also remember all those who continue to pass on as a result of related illnesses from that day. Our thoughts are with the families and friends impacted and hope the garden can provide some solace on your loss.

There will be a ceremony in the garden from 5pm this evening. The garden is the final stop in a joint 3 day charity cycle by US and Irish firefighters. Nice piece in the New York Times yesterday.

The 343 Reasons a Small Town in Ireland Mourns on Sept. 11 Kinsale, an Irish fishing village, is home to a 9/11 memorial honoring the firefighters who were killed in New York that day.

Today we honour and remember all those who were taken in the 9/11 attacks on this day 22 years ago, including 343 FDNY firefighters. Always remembered.

At 18:30 today in the garden, there will be a wreath laying ceremony organised by the Kinsale history society. All are welcome.
