Minor Reserve A Championship

Leixlip (2) 5-11 v 1-12 Naas (2)

Leixlip hosted Naas in their second game of the Minor Reserve A LGFA championship in GlenEaston under the lights.

The first half was evenly balanced with the teams trading scores in a lively first half.

H/T Leixlip 2-8 v Naas 0-8

The second half produced a similarly balanced performance between the teams with the defences working tirelessly in what proved a stamina sapping game.

The Leixlip girls managed to push on with goals at timely moments to run out winners.

A number of girls have now proved very adapt at different positions over the first couple of games with a number of new girls to Minor level enjoying a taste of the experience.

The girls have a home match next Tuesday which will be the halfway stage of the championship against near neighbours Maynooth.

Thanks to Naas for a very sporting contest and we look forward to seeing them again in a few weeks.

Also a special thanks to the pitch committee for the organisation with two Minor LGFA home games and ensuring the preparations for the Senior Hurling Championship could also run smoothly.
All in the LGFA would like to wish our Senior Hurling colleagues all the very best this coming Saturday.

u14 B Championship Shield Final: Leixlip vs Celbridge

Leixlip played Celbridge in the B championship shield final in Hawkfield on Sunday. Leixlip started well in the first 15 minutes and got into the lead although we missed some other chances to put us further ahead.

Celbridge finished the 1st half the stronger and went in with a 5 point lead after 2 quick goals towards the end of the 1st half.

A reset was needed at half time to refocus and regroup. Leixlip began the second half very well again and got back into the lead by 1 point after some well taken scores and a well taken penalty from Finn Conway. Celbridge responded again and reeled off 1-3 to put them 3 up with 10 minutes to go. Leixlip scored a 2-pointer which gave the lads great belief to push on again and close the gap.
Leixlip had another well worked move with the last play of the game drew a free which Finn put over to bring the game to extra time.

The first half of extra time was level enough with both sides trading scores. Celbridge looked to have won when they scored a goal in the 2nd half of extra time. Leixlip were 2 points behind with 1 minutes remaining in extra time.
Leixlip again showed great character and desire to work a well taken point from Dan Dempsey before winning the next kickout and working the ball to Tadhg Mallon who drove through the middle of the Celbridge defense and scored the levelling point to bring the game to penalties with the last kick of the game.

Unfortunately Leixlip came out the wrong side of the result on penalties.
We are immensely proud of the lads for their performance on Sunday and left everything on the field 🇶🇦
