A positive way to finish the season for Abbeyfeale United B Team as we thankfully confirmed our place in Division 2 football for next season.
It’s been a tough campaign at times, but the lads stuck together and got the job done when it mattered most. Onwards and upwards from here 💪⚽
A massive thank you as well to Shountrade AFC for their fantastic hospitality after the final game of the season, hosting a barbecue for all the players. A great gesture and much appreciated by everyone involved. Fair play to Shountrade AFC 👏
Best of luck for the rest of the season, and congratulations as well on retaining your Division 2 status.

U14 Girls Division 2 League Champions!!!
Yesterday evening our U14 girls clinched the Division 2 league title in front of a huge home crowd. The league came down to the final game against Granagh Utd, who needed a win to leapfrog us and claim the title themselves. But our girls saved their best performance of the season for the perfect occasion.
From the first whistle to the last, we controlled the game, with all 14 players playing their part in a superb team display.
Shola was outstanding in goals, confidently passing out from the back and safely collecting everything that came near her goal. In front of her, the back four of Juliette, Eva, Lisa and Aoife were immense defensively — tackling, blocking and linking brilliantly with the goalkeeper to work the ball smoothly into midfield.
Our midfield of captain Sarah, Siún, Saidhbh, Amy and Sophia completely took charge of the game. Sarah and Siún drove down the wings and delivered crosses worthy of the Premier League, while Amy, Saibh and Sophia won back possession time and again, turning defence into attack with pace, power and quality.
Leading the line was our top scorer Ava, who stretched the defence all evening and finished her chances brilliantly. Rumour has it Haaland is coming over looking for a few finishing tips from Ava!
Our substitutes also made huge contributions. Zoe slotted into the back four and showed tremendous skill and determination. Lacey came on at left midfield, created a great chance and nearly got on the scoresheet herself. Maria entered up front and continued Ava’s hard-running display, causing constant problems for the Granagh defence. But for two excellent saves from the Granagh goalkeeper, Maria would certainly have deserved a goal too.
We must also mention Katie, who unfortunately picked up an injury a few days before the match. Katie has been ever-present at right back throughout the campaign and played a massive part in this league-winning season.
Goalscorers on the night were Ava, Eva and Sarah.
This is a truly special group of girls whose hard work, commitment and dedication to training have paid off in the best possible way. They thoroughly deserved to be crowned league champions.
Well done girls — champions! 🏆⚽

OH SO CLOSE FOR YOUTHS
Youths Division 2 Shield Final
Abbeyfeale United 2
(S. O’Connor 71, D. O’Connor 110 + 2)
Athea United 2
(79, 103)
(Athea won 4-1 pens)
The improvement of Abbeyfeale United Youths during the season was evident in the Youths Division 2 Shield Final against Athea United in Mick Hanley Park on Saturday night. Having lost heavily in both league encounters against their neighbours earlier in the season , Abbeyfeale took Athea to the wire, only losing out in a penalty shootout after a 2-2 draw.
After a keenly-contested first-half, Abbeyfeale opened the scoring in the 71st minute with an excellent angled finish from Scott O’Connor. Athea equalised eight minutes later with a clinical strike from Man of the Match, Eoin Barrett.
Extra-time was equally competitive and it looked like Athea had done enough when Ahern scored from 16 yards three minutes into the second period. However, Abbeyfeale kept fighting until the finish and got their reward when Dara O’Connor equalised in injury time. Athea were clear winners in the shoot-out, winning 4-1, with Scott O’Connor providing the successful Abbeyfeale penalty.
Well done to all the players for their efforts in this match and during the season and a special congratulations to the management team of Timmy Quirke, Jack Riordan and Tristan Murphy who instilled discipline and dedication in their charges throughout the season. The team improved under their management and that is one very important hallmark of success.
