The Munster Group of the RoSPA Advanced Drivers and Riders Group in Ireland. Interested in learning about advanved riding? Visit munsterriders.ie

We're a bunch of avid motorcyclists located all around Munster, with members in Limerick, Clare, Cork, Tipperary & Kerry. We regularly go on ride outs, conduct training sessions and generally enjoy all things related to motorcycling! The group aims to improve the motorcycle riding skills ,to promote motorcycling safety and advanced riding, using the Motorcycle Roadcraft system, and to encourage and support motorcyclists to take the RoSPA Test.

Even the most highly trained riders and drivers, on blue lights, avoid overtaking at junctions, because it’s a highly risky manoeuvre that is absolutely fraught with danger.

So we have only one line of advice: don’t do it. Ever! Year after year, air ambulances are called out to motorcyclists killed at junctions and a far too common cause is that the rider was overtaking another vehicle through the junction itself. It’s simply not worth the cost.

Top Tip (and we make no apologies for repeating ourselves)

Don’t overtake at junctions. If blue-light riders don’t do it with their lights and sirens on, that’s a good enough reason for the rest of us not to do it either.

RoSPA Munster Riders is proud to be training partner to Blood Bike South and Blood Bike Mid West, supporting this volunteer-led emergency transport service that provides vital, out-of-hours delivery of blood samples, breast milk, and medical supplies to hospitals across the South and Mid-West regions.

Across Munster, our volunteer team of RoSPA certified Advanced Motorcycle Tutors train Blood bikers and regular motorcyclists alike, in Roadcraft - the system used by police and emergency services in many countries.

Most bike collisions happen at or near junctions, often where drivers don’t see the bike or do but misjudge the bike’s approach speed. Here’s some good advice that may save your life one day

Right o. Watch this. Ignore the voiceover ( it’s in French) and tell us what you think about….

1. The “progress” this pair of cops were making thru the twisties. Was it safe? If you believe yes, why?

2. The line of the lead rider as he transitioned through a series of linked corners. What does it say about his style of riding? Why?

3. The black car. How well did the rider cope? What could have happened if he met that car a little earlier?

Don’t be shy.
