Titanium done right. ✨

Not every day you get to work on a beautiful Van Nicholas titanium road bike.

Titanium has earned a bit of a cult following among cyclists, and for good reason. It’s incredibly resistant to corrosion, exceptionally durable, comfortable to ride and, with the right care, can last a lifetime.

This one was in the other day for a Bronze Service, getting everything cleaned, checked, adjusted and ready for many more miles.

One of the best parts of this job is that no two days are ever the same. From family bikes and commuters to machines like this, every bike deserves the same level of care.

Wednesday Workshop 🔧

One of the biggest myths in cycling is that chains “stretch.”

They don’t.

What actually happens is the pins and rollers wear over time, making the chain effectively longer. That extra wear then starts eating into your cassette and chainrings.

Replace a worn chain at the right time and you could save yourself replacing an entire drivetrain.

It’s a small part that can save a lot of money.

Tuesday Adventures 🇳🇿🚲

Before VeloWorx, before mobile bike servicing, before cycling became my career…

…it was simply an adventure.

This photo was taken while cycle touring around New Zealand, carrying everything we needed on the bikes and discovering places you simply don’t find from the seat of a car.

Trips like this taught me that a bicycle is far more than just a way to get from A to B. It opens doors, creates memories and takes you places you’d never otherwise experience.

Those adventures are a big part of why I still love working on bikes today.

Monday Memories 🚲

Long before VeloWorx existed, cycling was already part of my family’s story.

This is my Great Uncle Lenny with his bike, many years ago. Looking at old photographs like this reminds me that while bikes have changed beyond recognition, the feeling they give us hasn’t.

Freedom.
Adventure.
Independence.

Those are the same reasons people still ride today.

It’s nice to think that, in a small way, I’m continuing something that started generations before me, helping people keep enjoying the same simple pleasure of getting out on two wheels.

We all have one…

The bike that was “only put away for the winter”…

…and somehow that turned into two years. 😅

The good news is that most bikes don’t need replacing. A proper service can usually get them running smoothly again, often for far less than the cost of a new bike.

Before you think about buying another bike, dust off the one you already own.

You might be surprised how good it can feel again. 🚲

One of the best parts of last week’s post was seeing the incredible stories people shared about the bikes they’ve owned over the years.

Diarmuid kindly got in touch afterwards and shared photos from his remarkable collection of historic bicycles, including this beautifully restored 1924 Golden Sunbeam. He also owns several other rare machines dating back to the early 1900s, all helping to keep a piece of cycling history alive.

A huge thank you to Diarmuid for allowing us to share these photos with everyone.

It just goes to show that some bikes are far more than a way to get from A to B. They carry history, memories and incredible craftsmanship.
