At an event in The People's Museum of Limerick yesterday the Larkin and O'Brolchain families presented an Address in appreciation from the members of Saint Michael's Temperance Society dated 10th of May 1910 to their forebear Francis Geary on the occasion of his retirement as a club officer after many years of service.
Francis Geary was a leading member of the committee set up by the society to establish the Rowing Club in 1900-1901. The club is very grateful to the family members for this artefact and to the Limerick Civic Trust and The People's Museum of Limerick for agreeing to add it their amazing Regatta Room collection in the museum which is well worth a visit.
Here's and extract from the address; "We cannot pass unnoticed your unostentatious exertions towards the well-being of the boat club as you were ever ready with your valued council and integrity of purpose in helping the members in establishing the club in which your name will be always be coupled with the remembrance of kindness and good-fellowship."
Pictured are members of the families, with members of Limerick Civic Trust at the event in the museum in Pery Square yesterday.

All of us at St. Michael’s Rowing Club are deeply saddened by the news of the passing of Austin Reid
Austin joined SMRC in the 60s, stroking the Junior 8+ in 1966 and later becoming the president for a number of years.
Many know Austin from introducing rowing to St. Munchin’s College. He coached many St. Munchin’s crews to success in Ireland, even coaching one of his crews at the Junior World Championships.
The entire club offer our deepest condolences to Austin’s wife Carmel, his children, and his entire family circle.
Funeral details can be found on the link - https://rip.ie/death-notice/austin-reid-limerick-north-circular-road-627431

Thanks to Phoenix Rowing Club for being wonderful hosts to our SMRC Recreational Rowers over the weekend.
They had a terrific row through the heart of Dublin, they even got to carry their boats across the weir at Islandbridge!

SMRC came out in full force on the Tideway on Saturday 14th March. The women’s squad had 3 eights racing, the first time SMRC has ever even attended the event (trailblazers!)

Well done also goes out to our second Senior Women’s boat (bow 102) and our Junior Women (bow 301) for taking the Tideway in their stride!
💙 Bow 99 - 1st in Overseas Category - 56th Overall
💛 Bow 301 - 14th in Schools Category - 97th Overall
💜 Bow 102 - 4th in Overseas Category - 178th Overall
What a day and what a club, we can’t wait to see what else our Women’s Squad get up to this season!

In 1976, St Michael's ran a regatta on the lower Shannon to celebrate their 75th anniversary. 50 years later one of the plaques has surfaced! Thanks to Mackey Phelan of Commercial Rowing Club for sharing.
