One of the most overlooked factors or variables of training is rest or rest intervals
Its one of the variables I often leave until my clients or athletes are familiar with the exercises they're completing and general session layout. Rest times/intervals are also a key element to be examined for field sport athletes who could benefit from sport specific work to rest ratios.
This is as a result of the practicality of reduced rest times on coaching feedback.

It should be clear now that Resistance Training (RT) has broad and massively beneficial effects for participants.
I am sharing here some excerpts from research papers, and the UKSCA position stand on Youth participation in RT.
The specific protocols shared that were shown to be effective however would not be my "go to" approach but the point is to show that there are safe (relatively high intensity 80-89%) methods to train youth athletes effectively to yield these positive physiological changes.
More details on this topic of youth athletes and resistance training will be shared by the end of the month in the RT blog article on my website soon to come.

Continuing on the research into Resistance Training
Remember RT can include bodyweight or weightlifting (free weights like dumbbells or barbells and machine weights).
RT has massively protective effects on our health as we age and can massively effect our ability to remain independent - imagine yourself in your 70's struggling to get up the stairs, sit up or even walking around the house. Fascinatingly RT has protective effects on our cognitive ability.
RT facilitates us feeling better, feeling stronger and assists in maintaining a high quality of life. There are multiple potential pathways to achieve these outcomes allowing us to find something you enjoy doing that will help you stay strong for life !

Starting simple and sweet my main goal for this series is to introduce you to the various topics around exercise, health and fitness, improve your understanding and eventually share practical advise for your own independent implementation.
This months research topic or area for review is Resistance Training (RT)
Today just a teaser, an introduction to the series and topic. To start - resistance training includes bodyweight and weight lifting, this can include machines or free weights.
The benefits of resistance training are dependent on the purpose or focus of the specific training program, a result of the scientific principle of exercise science - specificity. This can include improved Strength, Body Composition or Resilience to injury associated with sporting performance or age. It is also associated with lower risk factors for disease and lower all cause mortality (most effective when paired with aerobic training).
Tomorrow I will share specifically information for older populations, and progress through the week down the age groups and effects on particular considerations relevant to those populations.
The end of the month I will share an indepth review of the topic with all the relevant references and recommendations in a single blog for your enjoyment and information.

Some days are for celebrating, my dearest sveta, featured in her first pop up Gallery with her photography.
She also made her first sale, I am so proud that she is reaching her personal and professional goals, my better half.
And yes I got a workout in, and I ate some fruit today.... Training should supplement your life

A good coach or trainer does their best to mitigate risk of injury.
Load tracking and continous monitoring of performances with flexible approaches to training are effective ways I manage my clients so they aren't working themselves to injury
