4 Gates. One of the most simple and effective games that can be use to encourage width and switching the play. Here we played it in a 4v4 and scored dummy moves. This is a skill game. There is no better way to go after close control skill and 1v1 defending than small sided games. Especially in the modern game. Teams not doing this are missing a huge trick. Very simple drill here that has a huge amount of possible variations for individual attacking and defending. We can also very easily turn this exercise into a 2v3 or 3v3 outside the arc and make it a 2 point scoring exercise

A scoring system is one of the most effective ways to encourage a behaviour in our players. Try to keep the score because when we don't, we tell the players at a subconscious level that what we're talking about is actually unimportant. A scoring system also works as a focus for tue coach to observe what they should be observing

Principles have always been around in sport. Consider them good habits or solutions to success that guide tue collective behaviour of a team. We can break the game down into moments and agree on principles that help us achieve success in those moments. What do fire fighters, police or soldiers follow in times of crisis? Procedures. They play a massive part in decision making process and allow experienced practitioners to rely on tacit knowledge or instinct. We feel this way about principles. They are the keys that allow our players solve problems the games present. The more familiar with them they are, and the more practical experience the players accumulate the quicker and better their decision making becomes. For us this can only be done using games.
