FINAL ROUND OF CRICKET FOR 2026 🏏

1st XI vs Waterford & District CC
The 1st XI secured a 133-run victory, posting 250/9 with half-centuries from Sarath (64) and Vivek (50) alongside support from Jomy and Vins. Niju spearheaded the attack with 4 for 17, backed by two wickets each from Sarath and Jibrin to bowl Waterford out for 117. We now await United Cricket Clonmel’s final round fixtures to see if we top the Division 3 table! Good luck to all still playing.

2nd XI vs Nenagh CC
The 2nd XI suffered a tight 19-run DLS defeat in a rain-affected battle. Muhammad (3 wkts) and Jayamohan (3 wkts) led a sharp bowling attack to dismiss Nenagh for 157, with two wickets from Milind and a run-out by Vivek. Chasing a revised 127 in 30 overs, Pradeep scored 31 and captain Muhammad added 15, but Lismore ended on 108/9. Huge congratulations to young U13s member Sadeu on making his competitive league debut for the 2nd XI!

Lismore Taverners vs Evening Herald XI
The Taverners hosted Dublin’s Evening Herald for a spirited friendly, with Carl and Wayne claiming 2 wickets each, supported by Arav and Swastik to restrict the visitors to 92/8. Kevin anchored the chase alongside Phil on a wet, heavy outfield, but Lismore fell just 14 runs short. The Blues now head off to the UK this weekend for a tri-series with Bolton Abbey and Chatsworth, rekindling a long-standing tradition!

Castlelands played host to one of the true highlights of the local cricket calendar this past weekend as Lismore Blues welcomed the White City All Stars for the final day of their annual tour of Ireland. Playing in ideal but windy conditions, the visiting side won the toss and elected to bat first in a 36-over contest that delivered a fantastic afternoon of sport and camaraderie.

White City built a solid foundation through openers Elinor (17) & Tony (21) alongside middle-order contributions from Patch (21) and top-scorer Peter (24). However, tight bowling from Lismore kept the run rate in check throughout the innings. Paddy led the home attack with impressive figures of 2 for 16, well supported with dismissals from Kevin, Caleb, Sadeu, alongside a clinical late spell from Jay (1 for 2). White City completed their 36 overs at 141 for 6, setting Lismore a target of 142 for victory.

Lismore’s reply started dramatically with two wickets off the first two overs, but an handy 21 from Kevin and a patient 15 from Phil steadied the top order. With the match finely balanced at 90 for 6, Dan and Sadeu combined for a decisive, unbroken partnership. Dan spearheaded the chase with a top-scoring 39 not out, including four 4s and a 6, while Sadeu, at only 13 years of age, anchored the other end with an unbeaten 15. Lismore crossed the line in 32.2 overs, finishing on 144 for 6 to secure a four-wicket win.

Off the pitch, the hospitality was as memorable as the cricket. A sincere thank you goes to Beecher’s Centra Lismore for generously supplying the afternoon tea sandwiches for both teams and supporters. The post-match celebrations continued well into the evening with food and drinks at club sponsor The Red House, rounding off another hugely successful chapter in this cherished annual fixture.

GREAT TEAM EFFORT AS LISMORE 2XI DEFEND TOUGH TARGET

A strong performance with the ball helped Lismore CC 2nd XI defend a tight total and earn a 52-run win away to our friends at United Cricket Clonmel 2nd XI.

Batting first, Lismore faced early pressure against a disciplined Clonmel bowling attack. Henry bowled brilliantly for the hosts, finishing with an impressive 4 for 24 and holding Lismore to 116 in 22.5 overs. A crucial late push from Binoj, who scored a valuable, unbeaten 29 off 23 balls with three big sixes gave Lismore something to bowl at.

Lismore’s bowlers then found their rhythm in the second innings. Mani set the standard with great discipline, taking 4 for 10 over seven overs (including three maidens), while captain Muhammad bowled with precision to pick up 3 for 10.

Despite a solid, resilient effort from Clonmel's Libin (25 not out), the pressure at the other end proved decisive, with Clonmel eventually bowled out for 64 in 23.4 overs.

A hard-fought game by both sides, and always a pleasure experiencing the hospitality of !

Blues Fall Short Against Laois Lions in High-Scoring Friendly

Lismore Blues’ (Taverners) hosted the Laois Cricket Club Lions for a friendly, good-natured encounter at Lismore, where hospitality was extended early as the hosts gave the visitors their choice at the toss. Opting to bat first, the Lions put the Blues straight into the field and made immediate use of the good conditions, powering their way to an impressive total of 222/9. The charge was led by standout performances from Blane (72) and Jesson (92), whose dominant half-centuries anchored the innings. Despite the onslaught, Lismore’s attack battled hard: Mo was the pick of the bowlers, turning in a sharp spell of 3-22 from his six overs, while Jon picked up 2-28. Kevin, Jonah, and Michael all chipped in with vital wickets to keep the visitors from completely running away with the game.

Facing a daunting run chase, the Blues needed to take early risks. The innings started well with opener Nat scoring a gutsy 18, but as wickets fell at regular intervals, a spirited middle-order fightback was required to keep Lismore in the hunt. Solid contributions from Mo (25), Kev (15), Paul (17), and a fluent 54 from Dan briefly gave the Blues hope, making the target look almost reachable at times. However, the turning point arrived when Dan was run out for 54; his dismissal halted the Blues' charge and swung the contest firmly back in Laois's favor, sealing a 67-run victory for the visitors. Despite the result, an enjoyable day was had by all as every player got a turn with both bat and ball. The tea at the innings break fully maintained Lismore’s notoriously high hospitality standards, with special thanks extended to our sponsor Beecher’s Centra Lismore for providing the excellent of sandwiches, and to our own members for brining the rest of the spread.

League Cricket in June and July:
