Yesterday in Melleray, our footballers took on Clashmore/Kinsalebeg in the first round of the Junior C Football Championship. The lads started well against the breeze, and were only 2 points in arrears after 18 minutes with Sean Begley raising a white flag for Melleray/Glen Rovers. However a couple of misplaced passes then cost us dearly, with the Clashmore side getting in for 2 goals before halftime, leaving the score at 2-4 to 0-1. We conceded another goal just after the break, but in fairness the lads upped their game and were just off target with a number of frees and missed two big goal chances. Sean Whelan and PJ Kiely and Sean Daly knocked over points, and in the end Clashmore ran out deserved winners on a 3-7 to 0-5 scoreline. The game will stand to the lads, as we have 4 more league games to play.
