Few shots from our session at Doughiska Skatepark this weekend 🛹

Good to get a crew together, skate somewhere different and make the most of one of Galways newest park! Be sure to hit it up before the weather sets in ☔️

Great to get another piece in the independent about our refurbishment of the skatepark with a new modern concrete facility and great to have the backing of local politicians! Thanks so much for all the support we will keep this going!

A Galway senator has said a long-term investment in a new skatepark for Loughrea would save taxpayers money while restoring an important community amenity.

A big thank you to Senator Shane Curley for coming down to the Loughrea skatepark to meet with us, hear what we’re trying to achieve and even give skating a go himself! 🛹

We’ve now reached out to all of our local representatives, and we’d love the opportunity to meet with more of them to discuss the options available and how we can work together to move plans for a new concrete skatepark in Loughrea forward.

We fully understand that the playground is council land and that ultimately this will be a Galway County Council project. What we’re asking is to be involved in the process and particularly in the design of the skatepark, so that the people who will actually use the facility can help shape what is eventually built.

We also want to do whatever we can to help the Council along the way, whether that means researching potential grants and funding opportunities, identifying experienced skatepark designers, looking at successful projects elsewhere in Ireland, or finding companies capable of delivering a high quality concrete skatepark for Loughrea.

We’re not just asking for something to be built. We want to put the work in, collaborate with the Council and our local representatives, and help make it happen.

Our door is always open and we’re more than happy to meet, talk through the plans or help in any way we can.

Thanks again to Shane for taking the time to come down, listen and show his support. Hopefully the first of many conversations! 🛹

Big shoutout to the younger skaters who came down on Saturday to give skating a go. 🛹

Every one of us learned from someone who’d been skating longer than we had, so it was great to see the next generation getting involved, giving it a shot and learning from the older skaters.

It takes a bit of courage to step on a board for the first time, especially around people you don’t know, but these guys got stuck straight in.

Loughrea Skateboarding is for everyone, whatever your age or ability. If you want to learn, come down. 🙌

Shoutout to everyone who came out for last Saturdays session! 🛹

Big thanks to Harry from Galway Skateboarding Association for loaning us the quarter pipe, ledge and rail.

Loughrea skateboarders are continuing to come out, get together and show that we are here and we have a strong local skateboarding community.

We want to keep building that momentum and showing the support that exists for a new, modern concrete skatepark in Loughrea, something the community can use and enjoy for years to come.

Thanks again to everyone who came down, skated, helped out or supported the session. Plenty more photos from the day to come! 🛹📸

FLATGROUND SESSION 3 🛹

Saturday 22nd August, 2pm at the Loughrea Slab.

We’re running another flatground session as part of the push for a new concrete skatepark in Loughrea.

Come down for a skate and bring along any rails, ramps, boxes or other obstacles you have.

The more people that get involved, the stronger the case for a proper skatepark in the town.

All ages and abilities welcome. See ye Saturday.
