A new walk for the Ramblers on Sat 17th. A native woodland trail in the Ross Estate in Roscahill and along the shore of Ross Lake. Should be a good opportunity for new members to meet the group

This is the time of year when new members join the Grey Lake Ramblers club. We have regular hikes mainly on the Sliabh Aughty's, the Burren, East Clare and Sliabh Blooms. In springtime we usually go to one of the off-shore islands and in the autumn we travel to a scenic mountainous part of the country. This year we were in Inishbofin and the Comeraghs in Waterford. Walks range from challenging to relatively easy routes. A reasonable level of fitness is important as well as good hiking boots and wet gear. Our central base is Loughrea but our members are from a wide area of east Galway ranging from Athenry to Woodford to Gort. It's to East Clare on Sun 4th for the GLR's. Cappaghabaun at 378mts is a new trek for most of our members. It is moderately challenging for 7kms on forest trails and boggy terrain. Should be great views over Lough Derg. An undiscovered part of the Sliabh Aughty's.

Day 2 of our walks in the Comeraghs. 21 Ramblers on Autumn tour. Coumlara loop and Marlfield walks. Weather not too kind but we go again tomorrow.

Hope the moon shines for the Ramblers that are howling at it tonight in Oughterard. Howl at the Moon is an annual fundraiser for Galway Mountain Rescue.

Twenty- two Ramblers are travelling to the Comeraghs for our annual Autumn away trip. A choice of seven hikes are on the schedule for the three day trip. These range from easy to moderately challenging. The local Peaks club have provided wonderful support and some leaders will be available to guide and perhaps challenge us.

A local and easy walk for Ramblers on Sun 20th. Kylebrack Woods trail is 8.5kms and a mixture of paths and forest roads. Maybe spot a red squirrel or a pine martin!

A bit wet and windy on Sliabh Cairn today but great to be back in the Burren.

Cahervalley Loop at Fanore is the walk for the GLR's on Sun 5th July. This 14km track, known locally as the Kyber Pass, is always a popular one. It takes approx 4hrs (including our hilltop break) on minor roads and an ascent of 300mts on a green road.
